I've got the original MSTS that came in a big cardboard box, and as far as I'm aware it's never needed either of the two CD's to be present.

Hi All,
For information only.
I have the original as well, bought on the day of release. I always needed a disk in the drive, untill I installed the update (now I do not need a disk).

Maybe I'm confused, I've been adding the update for years. I'll pass on doing a reinstall to see who's right!!!!

There have been a number of slightly different versions of MSTS put on the market including those done by Xplosiv. I believe that it depends on the one you have got as to whether you have to install the update to run without the disc.

Quite right. Leave well alone. Strange though isn't it?

That's right Laurie. The 'xplosiv version and others have the Update. So Martins copy with the Update should run without the Disk.
As I say, Strange though isn't it?

Hi All, to add my comments, I also have used the Xplosiv version when I first started using MSTS and guess what, I had to install the update to get round the problem of the CD in drive, this was repeated when I had to re-install MSTS after a replacement Motherboard and Hard Drive was required in my computer at the end of last year.
Luckily for me all my most important files from MSTS were stored in a backup folder by my repairer and I was shown it on my desktop, this folder has now been put into my spare Hard Drive which is as large as my C: drive.
Any time I require previously dowloaded Stock, I simply move them from the F: Drive Trains/Consist Folders into the correct C: Drive MSTS Trainset Folder, thus my stock in the MSTS Trainset Folder is kept at a managable level.
