Paddington to Penzance

I recently purchased the Paddington to Penzance CD and seem to be having a small problem.

Everything appeared to install ok but when I attempt any Paddington to Penzance route I get an error message saying "Failed to open texture file". routes\GWR\envfiles\textures\skylow.ace

I am using Windows XP and all files are in the default locations.

Any ideas?

Hi
That should be a file copied from a default route, by running the BAT file.
Cheers

Have you got textured skies selected (crossed) in options.?

Im not sure if this route needs it, but its worth a try.

Hi and thanks for all the advice.

Well, so far I have reinstalled MSTS from scratch and renistalled the London to paddington CD and still comes up with the same problem. I then did a little fiddling and found that more erros came up lie ShelbyHome, trees1 and many more, possibly around 30 files in total. I noted these files and copied some across from the standard routes on MSTS and this seems to sory out the probs, once the file is where it should be that paricular error does not occur. But it is a very long winded and labourious task and it appears that it will need to be done for each route! :o

There must be a better way and it would be interesting to find out if it is just me or it is a common problem.

In the meantime HAPPY XMAS all :D

What you did to sort it out is what the Bat file would have done.
This would have been mentioned in the Readme/installation instructions.
Re-installing MSTS, is ALWAYS a last resort.

Enjoy Christmas.

Almost certainly the batch file hasnt run correctly. Depending on what operating system you are running, it could be caused by your permissions set. If you are running Vista, have a read of the Vista thread for help with how to set msts up correctly.

Happy xmas- if using trainstore could it be that the required file is currently in store? I've had similar problems in past which were cured by unstoring default routes or alternatively unstoring everything before running the bat file.

Unfortunately trainstore doesnt store those sorts of files. Its only stores activity related files, such as eng and wag files, activity, path, and service files, along with the route trk file (I think) to hide the route from msts. Missing shapes etc are not due to trainstore.
