dorset coast keeps shutting down

Post by olibacon »

hi, whenever i run an activity (almost always), it stops randomly and says "this program is not responding would you like to report etc. etc. etc.". i've just updated to v5, would that have anything to do with it?

thanks, Oli

If this problem occurs when an activity is loading up prior to you running it, chances are you have insufficient system resources available - are you running Trainstore and the bin patch? Both of these (particularly Trainstore) will help.

It makes MSTS utilise memory in a far more efficient manner, thereby making more of your system resources available to run it. On lesser spec machines, it can turn a graphically very intensive route like Dorset Coast from a crawler to a runner.

Ive recently (within the last fortnight) installed Dorset Coast V3 onto a clean installation of msts, and then upgraded it to V5 following the directions and advice on this website. It went smoothly and runs fine, although I have to say I havent tried all 100 odd activities :)

There is a bug with one activity which i looked at last week for someone - cant remember which one now but a search will find it. Basically that was a pathing error which should have been spotted at an early stage in development. Ive fixed my copy but, unless you are familiar with activity writing, others may not be able to make the same changes I did. My advice is to forget any which cause problems and move on to one of the many others which run fine.

I know when i upgraded to v5, it didn't work and crashed msts everytime i tried the route, but i reinstalled v3 off disc, then did the v4 upgrade again (making sure i used the correct set of files - 1 lot for those who got v3 off the disc and another for the download version). There is a file to run in the v4 program (i think in the route folder, but may be wrong) like an installer program.

What i did then was run msts to see if it had worked/no probs etc, and did the v4 to v5 upgrade and it worked.

Don't know how much of a difference it makes but if you are using TrainStore, it recommends you unstore everything before installing a new route/piece of rolling stock, so i do that at all times.
