A Clean Installation of MSTS 1.

Post by widescreen »

After having many problems a week or so ago, I have done a full new installation of XP on a 500 Gig WD Hard Drive and I am now ready to install MSTS.

I would like to ask for advice on exactly what and when I need to install to keep this running sweet.

I plan on the following, in this order;

Install MSTS, from CD's.
Download and install updates for MSTS. Have yet to find these... (how many are there.?)
Install latest "T" section.
Install latest Bin.
Install X-Tracks.
Install New Roads.
Install UK Finescale.
Install Train Store.

Back up MSTS Folder.

Install Routes from CD's, ECE 1, 2 ,3, etc.

Have I missed anything.?

Do I need to to run MSTS between each step.?

Thanks a lot in advance.....

Hi widescreen, I have installed one update in computer regarding MSTS and I found my original link has changed and found the one you want by searching for Train Simulator on Google and trying the one I have listed below is the correct one for MSTS1.
http://www.microsoft.com/games/pc/trainsim.aspx, select this site and click on the english download upgrade half way down the middle of the page.
As far as as Mstsbin I was recommended to use version 1.7.10222 by KIng125 who I know very well through going to several UKtrainsim Live forums.
If you are intending to download many routes in MSTS you must use Train Store because after a while MSTS crashes and you cannot load anything through it.
Using Train Store and loading Routes then selecting the Activities through it saves this bother as it only loads into MSTS one route at a time, with regards to your other questions xtracks and ukfinescale were put in my computer by loading at least 6 Uktrainsim community CD's in at various times and these I can thoroughly recommend as an easy way to improve MSTS.

It is always advisable to test after every step of re-installation. It is also advisable to update the Tsection.dat after every install in case older add-ons overwrite it.

Ah that brings back memories. For the Mid-East route there used to be an activity for download - "I need a drink" written I think by Fodda. Sadly it seems to be AWOL from the forums but it was a cracking activity if you can find a copy somewhere. A fairly lengthy one - 2 hours plus as far as I recall.

Back on topic - it never hurts to run Route-Riter after every install and fix all the messages - otherwise they build up and become a problem when you can't find the warning or error you are looking for.
Kindest regards

Well, new Drive, clean fresh installation of XP Pro and guess what. Same problem I had last week.

http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 82#p908158

I get no text in the launch pages of MSTS.....

This is so frustrating.

I have the latest Video Drivers installed for the Card, which is good card. ASUS 2600 XT.

Does anyone have any more idea's.....

I am trying to download older drivers from the ASUS site but it is painfully slow, my logic is that it HAS to be a driver issue.
