Paddington - Penzance is a £4.50 community CD available from the CD ordering page which can be accessed from the front page of this site or via this link http://www.uktrainsim.com/ordercd.php?

Re: Paddington to Penzance Route
I am completely new to all of this Train Sim stuff but but so far, am loving it!! Sadly, my inexperience cost me 10 hours of downloading yesterday when I attempted to install the Paddington to Penzance which consisted of 14 files. Only after I tried to install my files, I found out it is all based on one larger route - the Paddington to Penzance route file, found on CD, or at least I think that's how it works.
My question is simple: If I order the CD "Paddington to Penzance 2.5", will I have everything on the CD to drive trains along this route or will I have to download extra stuff? All I want to do is simply drive a HST or similar along my 'local' track.
Thanks for your enlightenment

Community CD's (of which Paddington Penzance is one) come complete with the route, scenery ( except not all areas of that particular route are complete yet ), rolling stock and some activities to get you started. How many activities can vary from route to route.
Whether what you have downloaded is included I cant say, but if it were an activity it would depend on whether the activity author has limited stock to that provided on the CD, or has made use of other stuff from elsewhere.
You may find that when you install an activity you will have to get more stock, but that should be clearly shown on the download page and also in a readme, to save you wasting time if you dont want to do that
I dont think an HST is provided on this route as its set before they came out, but if you download a suitable one you will be able to run it on the route with only a minimal amount of additional work (possibly downloading cabs and sounds and setting them up).

Hi
If you like diesel activities go to the download library (activities) and there you will find approx 30 activities. When installing these activities just click to install the activitiy but click no to everything else.
I have all these activities installed and they run with no problems. One activity Padd to penz takes 6 hours as this is a long route but very enjoyable.
Best Regards
Arthur

Hi Again
I've finally got my hands on this route. I've installed it and checked that everything works OK - which it does! I was just wondering if there was a way to change the signals from the default steam age ones to modern ones?

Re: Paddington to Penzance Route
Hi Everyone, I have been given a copy of the Paddington to Penzance 2.5 CD at the Warley Show and the other night I downloaded it into my computer.
It certainly is a large one but it ran o.k. after loading and I have been trying several activities over the last few days and got on well enough, so tonight I looked at the one covering the Swindon Works and after choosing it and clicking on O.k., it came up with an error message saying failed to open Global\Shapes\Slidingdoors.s file and crashed out back to my main screen.
Can anyone assist me in explaining what is happening and how can I cure it.
Thanks Bob
Ps. I have had a look in my files for the Slidingdoors.s file and found it in the Routes\GWR\Shapes folder not as the error message says main Global\Shapes folder.
Hope this helps

Hi Bob,
Have read of this thread (found by 'sliding doors' search), I had your problem when I purchased P2P, the answer you need is near the end.

Re: Paddington to Penzance Route
Hi Robert, thanks for the info and I did copy the two Slidingdoors.s files into the Global\Shapes\ folder and then copied the SW1-7.ace files into the Global\Texture folder and hey-presto it works.
Like they used to say in Round the Horne, I now have another problem, when running the 12.30 Weston to Paddington Activity it gives an error message on loading "Failed to Intialise Car <200557> Rigid Body and this causes it to crash also.
Any help with this problem.
Bob

Re: Paddington to Penzance Route
Hi Bob,
Glad you got the first problem sorted, I also seem to be getting a problem with that Activity, but with
EDIT: Cracked it, there are 2 items of 'Static Consists' that are too close to the Buffer stops and require repositioning in AE. These are giving the errors.
1st. The consist in Paddington, '6004 and its train' requires moving forward beyond the signal to allow the last coach to appear on screen.
2nd. The consist near Reading, D7013_CB and its train in a siding, again move forward to allow the last peice of Rolling Stock to appear on screen.
Save the changes, and then re-tick the station stops in the timetable (do not recalculate) Save again and exit.
Activity will now load and run if the above has been carried out correctly.

Re: Paddington to Penzance Route
Hi Robert, just a quick note to say that I have just completed the 12.30 Weston to Paddington Activity and with your modifications it was completed on time and with a near perfect score.
Thanks again for your help and I am pleased that another Activity can be scratched of my list of ones to do, for a matter of interest at Reading on my right I saw the static Diesel Consist that was one of the problems and I had of course moved it forward to clear the buffers.
I did read later in Jim "Sniper" Wards Idiots Guide to the Activity Editor on the Steam4me.railpage that if you get "failed to load xxxxx" it meant that the consist is placed to close to end of spur and the game tried to generate that car off the end of the track and failed. I obviously did not relate to this when I got the error message and now understand what it was telling me and now I know if it does happen again, I will look at all Consists and move the offending one(s).
Regards Bob
