Problem with Bala Hub CD Activity

Post by scampispeedway »

Hi everyone, can any shed light on a problem I encounted when running an Activity on the Bala Hub 2004 Free CD I was given at one of the UkTrainsim Live Shows and loaded into my computer.
I have not as yet used either Activity Editor or Activity Analyser so I am not sure what the message I received on my screen refers to, so I am asking for someone to explain it and advise me what do do to cure it.
It is in the Activity "GWR Cavelry Run To Trawsfynydd" and after loading the Activity through Train Store and on the Main MSTS Screen, I highlight the Activity and click on the Start Arrow to get it started and wait.
After a while the screen goes blank, a bleep sounds and I am presented with the following message in a box.
Service GWR CavrunAI3 is out of date
Please resave in Activity Editor
By pressing the O.k. tab, I can load the Activity but stopping at the Red Signal in Bala Town and pressing the Tab Key as instructed in the brief, nothing happens so I must assume that because the above message is not right, the Activity is stymied.

Thanks Bob

This needs to be moved into MSTS1 help for beginners.

jbilton, if you look that's where it is, or did you mean post it on the main board for MSTS1. I thought about that but I am only starting to learn things and must take one step at a time.

It moved from the Rail Simulator > help for beginners forum to here because a moderator wandered by and saw it was in the wrong forum and agreed with Jon and moved it quietly here.
Kindest regards

John, sorry about that mistake, that's what happens trying to do two jobs at once. I was sure I posted in the right forum but obviously I goofed, I will have to watch it next time I post a query.

Hi Bob
I would have tried to help, I generally do, but unfortunately your query is on a route I haven't currently got install.
I agree though, the main forum board name can be a little small text on some screens.
Cheers

Hi Bob.

I have had this message a few times on various activities and I have fixed it by opening up the activity editor.

Start > All Programs > Microsoft Games > Train Simulator > Train Simulator Editor & Tools

Activity Editor > File > Open > Find the Activity and open it and then re save it.

Regards,
David.

Edit: I don't think I read your post properly

Hi David, thanks for that info. as I said earlier I have not used Activity Editor before, so at least this will be an easy start for me to use it and look at what it contains.
I am at present downloading more Activities for the Bala and I am enjoying trying several others already installed in other routes from around the Uk. and of course the ones you get with MSTS.
I will try when I get time to what you suggest and let you know how I got on.

Hi Bob,

I would do as David has suggested to get rid of the message
Service GWR CavrunAI3 is out of date
Please resave in Activity Editor
and with regard to the 'Red signal', have you tried the old trick of the 'MSTS shuffle' to clear the signal.

Unfortunately I haven't got 'Bala Hub' so don't know the activity, but by all accounts the Route is very good.

Hi David and Robert, while waiting to download another Bala Activity this morning, I did what David suggested and once again I got the error message after clicking on the right Activity in the LLangollen folder and after a couple of clears to get rid of it, I saved it. I have since gone back in to the Activity Editor and the error messages have gone, so I must assume that it worked and when I get a chance tonight I will rerun the Activity and the problem with the Stop Signal should go.
If it doesn't I will certainly try the MSTS Shuffle but I honestly don't think this will be necessary, anyway thanks for the advice, it certainly show the benefit of posting a problem on this forum.

Hi David, well I managed today to have another go at the Bala Hub Activity, and sure enough the error message I got earlier has gone.
I still have to stop at the Red Signal in Bala Town and the problem I got earlier has not disappeared as I thought it would.
I tried all sorts of movements to get the Red Signal to change but without success and pressing the Tab Key does not say "Permission Denied" or activate any response from the Activity.
Does anyone else have any ideas on what the problem is and I will try again later on after reading a few older Forum posts circa 2002 on Red Signals but I will be interested in any comments on the matter.

Hi David again, right as Robert says if at first you don't succeed try, try, try again and success the fourth time, I had saved the Activity entering Bala Town and so after dinner I had another go.
This time approaching the Red Signal while moving slowly I pressed the Tab Key and quietly heard the "Permission To Proceed" voice, which I never heard before unless stationary.
I, then approached the third loco which was waiting on the other line at slow speed i.e. 2-3mph and I connected up using the overhead front coupler view key to assist me and once connected I carried on up the line.
So that's it, final problem solved and I will do the whole run again to improve my timetable times, now that I know exactly what to do.
Thanks for your help in solving the first problem I had and I thought that is was only right to let you and Robert know that I managed to get round the other one through trying various options.

Hi Bob,

Glad you sorted it all out, as you are finding MSTS is an extrodinary animal at times and you sometimes have to try different things when meeting this situation.

Red signals can be caused by various things AI traffic, Rolling Stock on the Route ahead, Double Reverse points to name just a few and different approaches are required to 'Clear' the signal as you have discovered.

I bet it won't be the last time you get caught!

Hi Robert, yes I have no doubt it won't be the last and I remember the people at my old work place asked me just before I retired, "What will you do with yourself now you are finishing with work" and I replied "Don't worry I will find things to do" and I was right.
I never thought that this would be so addictive but it is cheaper than building you own model layout and takes up less space in my flat, it's a good job I'm single as it's still not decorated after my DIY home improvements over the years.
