Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
John, yes I have already printed out the two sheets you list and will get stuck in first thing monday morning downloading and running them, I need to give my old tired brain a break after trying to solve all these problems I've been having lately.
Anyway I have had more success today, I have completed my first Activity tonight namely the easy "A Day at the Races" in the North West England v2.1 route package which I picked up at last Uktrainsim live show near Birmingham last month.
Now I have seen what happens after completing one, it encourages me to try other ones which are a little longer and more difficult, I was only just over 10mins late arriving at Aintree from Haydock Park but I was held up several times and
that was not caused by my bad driving skills.
I am thinking of coming down to NEC in December on the quieter sunday after last years Saturday attempt to get in, so I am well known to most of the ladies and gentlemen on the live show team as I have visited various shows where they were present and were within the range that I was prepared to travel to and from in a day.

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
Hi Bob,
Just to clarify and avoid confusion. You do have the 1st/original Ashburton? and not Ashburton2 which is a vastly upgraded version with a diferent track plan. Acts for the first will not run on the second.
I mention this, as the last post by Easilyconfused, who did say 'just for refrerence' refered to version 2. The file IDs in your original post refered to the original version. I do not intend to upset anyone here though.
I hope you are not being overloaded with advice here only trying to help.

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
OOPs well spotted douglee, I think I have added to the confusion here as I automatically thought we were talking about Ashburton2 (without checking) and the files I quoted are for Ashburton 2 and not the original Ashburton Branch, sorry about that Bob (scampispeedway).
These are activities for Ashburton Branch.

Once again much apologies

Hi emrhd01,
Will some one take me down a peg or two.
Really only joking.

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
Everyone, now I'm confused, at the very start I stated that I had tried to download and run the 4 files required to load the Version 1 Route of the Ashburton line.
Once I had done this and did a run of the Introductory Activity to check it was running o.k., I thought that the upgrade would cure any faults in the original Version and so I downloaded and installed it, should I have not done this ?.
Is this upgrade only for the Version 2 which is only available on CD from the online page but now that I have downloaded and run it, is it better that I completely remove the Version 1 from my computer that has been corrupted.
Is this an easy job and what do I have do to delete this route and corresponding files and then decide if it's better to buy this CD of the V2.0 and not bother reloading the V1.0.
I am I right in thinking that once this later version is loaded, I should then run the Upgrade again and then download and run the two Files ID 17226 and ID 17236 mentioned earlier.
Am I right that this the best way forward and I will await your suggestions before doing anything else.
Bob

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
Hi Bob,
OK fresh start.
The five files that you originally downloaded worked fine once you had WinZip installed. Yes?
You then downloaded and installed two update files ID 17226 and ID 17326 these are for Ashburton 2. This is where it went pear shaped?
Right.
You should still have the first downloads, so Backup your Trainset folder and install the first files again using the .exe file this will overwrite the route files and the rolling stock files, then run the route if OK install the update file you have, not the two above, don't worry you have the backup if it goes wrong. Then run the route again. This should show where the problem, if any, is.
If you realy want to delete the route. Just right click on the folder and choose delete. Do not delete any files from the Trainset folder.
Come back and tell us.
(Stage Direction) A while later
Ashburton2 is availabe from the download library as 'Route Ashburton 2'. This is where the update files ID 17226 and ID 17326 come into play as they are for this version.
If you decide to install this and want to keep the first version. You can rename your first route folder somthing like ABC(your initals)_Ashburton_1 this separates the route from the Ashburton v2 install. Which has the same name. That way you have both routes to use.
I think I understand this I hope you do Bob.

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
Doug, nearly right in the situation of my V1.0 of the Ashburton Route, I have not as yet even downloaded the update Files ID 17226 and ID 17326.
The problem arose with after installing the update File ID 15562 for V2.0 into my V1.0 version of the route, this stopped me running the Introduction Activity but not the Explore route in the V1.0 I have installed.
As it is so easy to remove the corrupted route, I think I will do this and reload the route again and rename it as you suggest so that if I decide to buy or download the V2.0 it will not get in the way.
I can then run the upgrade patch file ID 15562 which I have stored in my computer and then also run after downloading the other two update files as they will only touch the V2.0 Route I have in my computer.
Thanks to everyone for all the advice given as I said before I am a complete novice at downloading route files from the data base and any upgrades relating to them.
I will have to be more careful in future about adding upgrades to any route I have, making sure it refers to the right version.

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
Doug, a short note to tell you that I have just deleted the Ashburton Folder as you suggested and reload the route again and it is working again as it did the first time.
I will rename the Ashburton route folder and buy the CD for Ashburton Route V2.0 as this will save me a lot of hassle in downloading both the V2.0 Route and any Activies for the route.
I understand that the CD contains other routes as well and once I get my Premium Membership for a month, I can download more files particularly the ID 17226 and 17326 updates and add them to route.
Once again thanks for all the help I have been given since I requested it.

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
Hi Bob,
OK thanks for that. I am pleased we sorted it.
Out of interest for my own peace of mind I tried to add the update ID 15562 to my Ashburton V1 and guess what it crashed at the loading screen. So after all that you were basicly right as to the cause, it was the solutions that threw you.
The sound in the cab of the 14xx does not work on my route either.
Mabe another post on that subject will gnerate a response.
It can be cured by replacing the cab Sound in the .eng file with your default Scotsman one but If you are not happy in loco files this is best left alone untill you are sure. I could try and explain it if you like.

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
Doug, if it was explained in step by step instructions, yes I would like to at least have a look at how that particular .eng file can be improved, I could later on have a go at changing it.
I see by loading the route in Train Store there are now two Ashburton's in its listed route files data base, the first is my renamed V1.0 file and loads and runs o.k., the second has nothing in it and so I have left it alone.
I am right to understand that it will contain the V2.0 data once I have loaded it into my computer later on.

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
Hi Bob,
Glad we sorted it eventualy. Don't touch Trainstore folders the program needs them.
I spent some time on the following.
I will assume you are familiar with opening folders and . files and copying and pasting. You also need Word for Windows and be able to set it to open other files.
If not then you should not really try this.
Before you change any file Backup the Trainset
First Unstore everthing from TrainStore
Open TrainSimulator
Open Trains then Trainset
Open Class_14xx (the loco from Ashburton)
Open 1470.eng
In the list find Sound ( “1470eng.sms “ ) leave the doc open
Go back to Trainset
Open Scotsman
Open Scotsman.eng. In the list find Sound ( "FScoteng.sms" ) copy this line. Go to 1470.eng . Paste the copy over Sound ( “1470eng.sms “ )
Go back to Scotsman.eng. Find Sound ( “fscotcab.sms”) copy this line. Go to 1470.eng. Paste the copy over Sound ( “1470wag.sms” )
Save and close word docs
In the Scotsman folder Open Sound
Copy ALL the files there
Go back to Trainset open Class_14xx
In the list open Sound and paste the copies into this, leave the others alone.
This should work. There maybe a better way, other people more informed that me, might know.
If you are stuck try me back. Let me know how you get on I will keep watching this thread.

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
Hi Doug, thanks for your reply, since the last time I came on, I have run the following two files I had already downloaded and I am sure that they are loaded o.k and they were so easy to do.
Both were from the Tweaks Section on the front page namely the Carlisle-Settle Gates Crossing fix and the Driving Aids update, I saw straight away running a route after this, the benefit on the Driving Aids display as they all had a clear backgrounds in their display and this allowed a better unobscured view of the route ahead.
I have started to do a long (4hrs) but easy Activity taking the 16.18 Diesel Sprinter Train from Wick to Inverness stopping at all staions which is from the Far North 1.5 (Special Edition) route, one of the routes contained in the Big Vern's 5 Route compilation CD I bought earlier in the year from the main Uktrainsim section.
I was advised by one the Uktrainsimlive people I know well at the Redditch show to save the Activity from time to time so if anything went wrong I wouldn't have to start again from the very begining.
I am familiar about opening, copying and pasting files so I will certainly have a look at doing what you have written but as the earlier version while good has no Activities I could try, I might leave it until later on before I attempt to modify it.
I will when the Post Office situation gets sorted out, order the GWR Branch line CD from the CD section and so have a try of some these Activities for the V2.0 of the Ashburton Route, once I have added the three fixes already mentioned.
I have printed your instructions out so I can follow it step by step, it must be wonderful but time consuming to get into MSTS programme and all its quirks and it never ceases to amaze me how people understand all it's workings and develop fixes when someone highlights a particular problem.
I will let you know how I get on but bear with me if it takes a little while to implement it.

Re: Help required to load Ashburton Downloads into MSTS
Hi Bob,
Good luck with the act, do save often. I always do before signals and junctions anyway.
The Following are IDs for Ashburton V1 acts ( do a search 'Ahsburton' on UKTS )
ID 14205
14451
14842
14843
16778
There is an issue with loading acts into Ashburton reguarding the route name. This where the Id 15562 patch come in. There was a post about this. Try a search ('Ashburton patch' on the forums).
Save the downloads and you can play around with installing them. One thing that is said often is, only do one at a time then you have an idea what caused any problem.
Edit. I just found this link. http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 323#850323
