Painless way to change a train?

So, I got the Pendy York to KGX activity for ECE, and totally failed to get the cabview for the sipulated pendy model working.....clearly some lack of clue on my part. BUT, it occurred to me that there is a rather lovely pendy available with my new WCE route.
So what's the easiest way to change the Pendolino used in the York-KGX to be the EB-WCE one?
I'm thinking route riter, but as they man says "I know naaaaathing senor".

Using Routeriter is a way of doing what you want to do......but I've never done so myself, so I can't give you a blow by blow guide, unfortunately.
I'd dive straight into the consist file myself and hack around until I got it right. One of the problems of being techy.....why use a utility, when with a little bit of effort you can do it the hard way!!

It's a man thing, possibly.....

Hi
I have to agree with Doug here. It is more satisfying going long hand.
You can copy the cab file( .cvf ) you wish to use and past it into the pendy folder replacing the one you dont want.
You will have to alter the .eng file to reflect the change.( Cabview *******.cvf ).
You may also want to change the sound files in a similar manner.
Hope this is of some help.
Best regards
Mike

Hi goonden?,
I guess you mean pendilino.
As you have both routes you mention. Unstore them both, if using Trainstore.
Open Activity Editor and select the route and then the act you want to change.
Then select player service and then select edit.
A screen will then allow you to replace the rolling stock you wish. Remember to keep the consist length, ie. the number of vehicles the same.
Save and exit.
Easiest? I don't know but it works. 'Famous last words'
Dare I say you now know somthing
Hope this helps. Oh! and back up if you're no sure.

Easiest way is to open the ECE consist in the editor by choosing "Use as Template" then save it as a backup.
Note down the name of the ECE consist and delete it.
Now load the WCE consist using "Use as Template" and save it with the ECE consist name.

Thanks gents,
I, being a Linux geek, jumped straight into the .eng file to change the .cvf entry initially. Didn't really KNOW that was what was required, but guessed.
The thing is, I couldn't find a line specifying a .cvf in the .eng.
I'll take a look in another loco's .eng and see what form the .cvf entry takes.
One other thing, how do you specify whether or not the movements of the controls read out on the bottom of the screen?
ie...."throttle 50%"
I ask because the lack of cab was compounded by a lack of these too, driving blind at 140mph
Thank you all for all the different ways of doing this, it's great to have options, but I'm deinitely up for the "hands dirty" approach.

You're looking for the keyword "Cabview". The format of the file reference is slightly different depending on whether you're using a cabview in the loco's own folder or aliasing from elsewhere.
Welcome to the dirty hands club. Utilities like Route Riter and Conbuilder are wonderful, but you can't beat getting in amongst the works to actually understand what's going on.
One issue to be aware of when you change stock in an activity is that you may alter the performance characteristics and the activity may not then work out as the author intended - this is particularly relevant to AI trains which may run earlier or later than intended.

I'm assuming that won't be an issue in this case as I am swapping a pendy for a pendy, but I see your point.
Didn't get round to having a go today, nightshift and MSTS don't mix (gentle rolling motion, rhythmic sounds..zzzzzzzzz).
