Yet another Dorset coast problem
Hi all.
I posted this in the actual Dorset coast thread - but that seems to have died a death, so I thought I'd give it a try here.
Have loaded up from Dave's CD (v.3) - and then upgraded to v.4 and have run the install.4.0 batch file.
Having done this on yet another re-install of MTS, I am still getting "cannot load shape" failures, (e.g. "cannot load global/shapes/ukfs3r_s_2x10m.s"). and a shed load of others, then I get politely informed the game is leaving the room.
I'm a total nOOb at this, but I would assume the unloadable files are something to do with the ukfinescale addon?
If anyone can offer any advice, I will retain what little hair I have left.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
As the error is "failed to load..." rather than "failed to find...", I think it's likely your system is struggling with this large and graphically very intensive route. There are one or two things you can do to improve performance: you don't say if you're using Trainstore or not but it really is essential with Dorset Coast - there's a copy on the DC3 CD. Secondly, are you using the bin patch? If not, I'd recommend it as it can help you get the best performance from your PC. Prior to installing the patch, I was only able to run DC4 on my Dell Notebook by turning the settings down sigificantly, and even then I'd get very low frame rates. With the patch installed, it runs quite nicely with the settings on full.

Hi Dave,
My advice to you is to download Route Riter, it is freeware (but I'm sure Mike wouldn't refuse any contribution) and then you can run your downloaded DC4 Route through it and it will tell you exactly what is missing and what is required to put things right.
A very clever Utility, you can use it to check your other Routes you have installed as well and using Route Riters other tools to do heaps of other things (correcting Bounding Boxes, making AI locomotives and much, much more).
Dorset Coast is an enormous Route and very memory hungry, if you aren't using Train Store already, you are definately going to need to for this Route. Dave has included Train Store to download on the DC CD/DVD, but of course it can be downloaded from this site.
Hope you get it all sorted out, you've picked a tricky one to undertake, in my opinion Dorset Coast is best bought as a Community CD (which gives you the Route, 100+ Activities & all Rolling Stock required) from this site, this of course includes postage, vat and 1 months Premium membership for just £4.50 you can't go wrong with that.
Good Luck.
Robert
Edit:
Dash Ash, you've beat me to it again I must type faster! I also think you probably have hit the nail on the head better than me.

Hi Ashley, Hi Robert - and many thanks for responding.
Yes I am already using trainstore - and no I didn't have the bin patch installed - but I do now, and the problem is resolved.
I never envisaged it as being a problem with the route itself, as I have the CD version, and no-one else had reported this kind of problem, so the fault lay at my end.
Will certainly give RouteRiter an outing - fully expecting it to come up with "zero defects".
Thanks again.

You say everything is loaded through Trainstore - do you mean you are trying to run the whole route in Classic Trainstore? If so, you will have problems.
Go to the Easy Trainstore tab, and try running one activity, or exploring using locos used in the route.

Please have a look at my railway photograph site - http://alan-lewis-chambers.fotopic.net/ - lots of British steam and early diesels

Hi Alan and Glyn - thanks for replying.
I already have the latest tsection installed, and I'm running trainstore in easy mode, (I did mention I was a nOOb at this heh heh).
The "train world initialisation failure" seems to only come about if I lower or disable certain graphics settings, if I more or less max everything out, it's fine.
Installing the MTS bin patch has worked wonders for the graphics though.

It sounds to me like you may have disabled Textured Sky - that kills Dorset Coast stone dead. Re-enabling it makes it work again. I'm sure that's in the Dorset Coast Route Information sticky in the General MSTS Discussion forum.
