Sudden problem with Train.exe :S

Post by expressboy1983 »

Hiya crew! :D

Ok, here's the dealy.

Train simulator been working fine over the last 2 months or so since i installed BIN 1.7. everything has been flying through, and i've had no problems with it at all. This morning i downloaded and installed the Croydon Trams. Since installing, everytime i load up MSTS, and click "Drive A Train" Train.exe crashes, and i get dumped on the desktop again :-? I can run an ITR, acces the saved scenario's, and edit the settings, But apparently i'm not allowed to drive anymore because my mean computer says so :argue:

Any idea's anyone? :(

Thanks in advance. :)

Firstly remove the Croydon trams again and see if everything starts working again, thus proving it definitely is them. Sounds to me they havent been installed correctly :(

Hi Simon

Are you using TrainStore, it could be that by loading those last extra files has pushed your computer to it's limits. By using Trainstore you only load files that are actually required to run the selected activity, the rest are stored freeing up your computer resources.

Yes im using trainstore, have been for quite some time now. And even trying to load up an activity, or Explorer act through trainstore is proving impossible. I'm at my wit's end and seriously don't know what to do. Fortunately i only have the DC3 CD installed on here at the moment, no others. I now also cant even open the AE or RE :-? So i'm considering a fresh install. :( I'll keep fiddling with a few things, and see what happens. If i get anywhere, i'll let you know.

Hi Simon

Sorry can't help you any further although I'm sure someone out there can.

A fresh install should only be considered as a very last resort, keep us posted and Good Luck.

Ok, the problem is resolved. The cure was simple, although the cure doesn't explain to me what was causing the problem :(

The cure was......i unstored everything from train store :-?

Unstored everything...loaded the game up as it was, it worked :o

Shut the game down...stored everything i had stored before...left everything i needed unstored...it worked :o

Now everythings running just as it was before the train.exe problems :lol!:

Just when you think you've finally tamed your computer, it turns around, and bites you in the rear end, and reminds you..."one day, we're gonna rule the worrrrrld!!"

Hi
Crashes to desktop, as MSTS loads, can be caused by an old Tsection.
I don't use Train Store properly but I believe it can swap Tsections around....maybe thats what happened.
Cheers

Hi again Simon,

In view of what Jon has said, I thought you may be interested in this post that was under the topic "TSection36" recently, I must admit I'd forgotten about it until Jon gave you his advice.

Alan (alanch) wrote:
I'm still surprised that more people don't seem to be using the Trainstore feature that allows you to keep a copy of Tsection.dat outside of the Train Simulator/Global folder that any route can use. Perhaps they haven't read the Manual? All you need to do is create a folder anywhere on your computer, copy the Tsection.dat file into it, select each route in Classic Trainstore and click on Routes Tsection.dat Settings. Then point to the file in your new folder, and move on to the next route.

I've done this for quite a while now, with a series of subfolders from version 33 to 36 in a main folder called Tsection Library (original!). Whenever I install a new route I just point it to the latest version of Tsection.dat. If anything installs an older version in my Global folder it has no effect on any other route - so no crashes to desktop..

Of course, when a new version of Tsection comes out, I can put it in a new folder, and when I get around to it I can point all my routes to it, although if they are working without problems that isn't essential.

Alan
I have taken Alans advice and thought you may want to, in view of what happened to you.

It's easy to do, if you follow exactly what he says.

Okie dokie my TSection is now in a different location, and has been pointed to on each route.

Must admit i'd never read the manual for Train Store so i had no clue it could do that kinda stuff. Only way i tend to learn about things is by playing with them, and pushing buttons, reading manuals tends to confuse me

Out of interest though...what is it in MSTS that causes the (seemingly millions when it happens) of "Failed to load sms object" errors? I had a ton of those come up on me the other day when driving through Hook, and had never experienced it before. For about the next 1.7 miles ahead, there was no scenery at all except for terrain!?

I've since turned all of my sound settings down a notch (or two in some cases) and since then, i've not had it again, and im hoping it'll stay that way.

Anyway enough of my rambling

Thanks to all for your help, and look forwardto learning more! :D

All the best to all!

Hi Simon,

Have you tried a forum search for "Failed to load". Paste that into the search terms and then make sure to select the "search for all terms" and see what you get. I would suggest that the SMS files are there but your PC can not load them fast enough. The threads that come out of the search offer a lot of information about how to rectify this problem.

Note that the default options on the search "Search for any terms or use query as entered" does not do what it says - it merely searches for any terms - it does not search for the phrase as entered so if you type "failed to load" and left the radio button in the default position you will get every post that contains the words "failed" or "to" or "load" thus you will get threads that 47110 failed on the 12:02 Bristol to London etc. etc. etc. I think you can see what I mean ?

Kindest regards

John
