I'm not very confident with exraction tools such as winzip etc, but I 'know' how to use the XP extraction to the left in the menu.
I am, however, having trouble extracting the thames-mersey files. I don't know what the path I want to extract too is, I have tries the usural suspects but when I go into the mersey folder it all starts with program files and then into the sub folders.
Is there any way of extracting the files using the xp tool whilst not over writing needed data, and whats the path I need.
Sorry for the resent bombardment of threads from me, but I've recently got into MSTS after a long spell with BVE, and beforehand I'd never tried anything fancy, and I had enough time to do everything the LOOOONNNNNGGGGG way

Not sure about the windows zip folder service as I exterminate it as soon as I finish installing windows (while it's fine for extraction, it's an unholy mess when you need to make a zip, and messes up actual zip programs, which offer better features.). BUT, if you have TS installed in a non default location (e:\train simulator in my case), you can open the zip, the open the C folder, programfiles folder, and so on, until you are looking at the "routes" and "trains" folders in the zip, then just drag these to your trainsim folder. You DO click overwrite as only files of the same name will suffer (rather than it replacing the entire existing folder contents with the new stuff).
If ONLY windows allowed simlinks, you could do
ln -s c:\progr~1\micros~1\train~1 e:\train~1
And anything installing to or looking for, an installation on C would miraculously see the E: install instead.
But windows is a young OS, it will develop such tools eventually I am sure.

Hi Electric
If you aren't heppy with Winzip try the free 7Zip from http://www.7-zip.org/
Set the View to 2 Panels, and you can then see the source archive in one and the destination in the other panel. You can double click any Readme to see what it says. Any .exe files within the archive can be double clicked to run them, and they will show you where they are going to be installed. If there is no .exe, 7Zip will show you any folder structure the author has set up, and you can drag easily from the archive to the correct destination.

Please have a look at my railway photograph site - http://alan-lewis-chambers.fotopic.net/ - lots of British steam and early diesels

I think I've done it fine using windows on the C: instruction.
I don't need to zip stuff so the windows tool is fine
I've tried a few extraction programs, but the only one I can comfortably use is the windows tool, as it's pretty much self explanatry
