Increasing Diesel smoke emitted...

Post by expressboy1983 »

hiya Gang :D

Is there a way of increasing the smoke emitted from a diesel engine? I've noticed with a few of my 56's, the smoke generated form them is like X5 more, then that of a 47 :S infact they seem to emit more smoke than even the HST's. Surely there is somewhere in the .ENG file where this can be modified, but im scared to play with it, incase i screw something up :-?

Thanks for reading...

There's an excellent little utility available on the 3DTrains site (first item on the Miscellaneous Files menu) that alters the amount of diesel exhaust produced, and it's quite realistic:

Alternatively, why not just make a backup of an eng file first, then play around with the settings until you achieve something you're happy with?

The bit of the eng file to look at is:

DieselSmokeEffectInitialMagnitude( 0.6 )
DieselSmokeEffectMaxMagnitude( 1.0 )
DieselSmokeEffectInitialSmokeRate( 0.2 )
DieselSmokeEffectMaxSmokeRate( 3 )

Play with the numbers and see what happens. Back the eng file up first, and don't touch any brackets and it will work. I would use the 3D trains files, they are so much better! The medium diesel smoke works for me, the rest is too much!
