Coupling problems AGAIN

Post by prairie4566 »

Hi all

In reply to Alistair's post in Activity Creation, I'm setting up a shunting Activity for SVR, but have been stopped by a recurring problem that's getting me down :x

On buffering up to random stock items, I just bump up against the stock or bounce off it. This time it's just SVR stock, which we're all familiar with by now, so what's the cause?

I temporarily changed bounding box lines to that of the loco (813) but no good.

Stating the obvious maybe, but ensure that the stock you are coupling to have the same coupling types as the consist you are driving.

Yep, all SVR stock has chain couplings.

Is it loco front coupling or general stock coupling you are having problems with. It is sometimes necessary to couple to some stock at low speed 1-2 mph or this can cause bounce off problems.

Have you Bin installed, this assists with front loco coupling problems.

This particular Activity involves both front and rear coupling, starting with rear coupling. I find that stock couples up OK, but not locos.

I have got MSTSBin installed - I recently updated it to the latest version to see if that would work.

Hi
I've posted this a few times but I still find reducing the Inertiabox by 0.3 works for me.
I also find two coupling statements help with one of them with a minus velocity.

Wagon ( Driver
Type ( Engine )
WagonShape ( Brakemen.s )
Size ( 2.8m 2.9m 0.50m )
Mass ( 1t )
WheelRadius ( 0.3m )

Damping ( 1e6N/m/s 1e6N/m/s )
Break ( 1.1e7N 1.1e7N )

I had a coupling problem with some BATS stock- in the SR pack, I believe- and deleted the line

CouplingHasRigidConnection ()

Coupling and uncoupling then took place smoothly, but I don't know which stock you are struggling with, so your problem may be very different. Additionally , so far, I have only found it necessary to make this alteration to some of the coaches in the SR pack.

It's just SVR goods stock, but the ones I need to couple to are the Toad, the grey 18ft WB Van and the Highley coal wagon.

Coupling problems AGAIN

Post by timenec »

If you look on the Train-Sim site,I believe in their Bin section you will find a thread about couplings. There is a downloadable file which has their expert's latest physics and couplings (for a US boxcar and SD40) which work beautifully, both ends.I have converted all my stock to them. You not only get perfect coupling but your freight trains will "run out" and "bunch" just as in the RW.

Sorry you are still having problems. I've coupled the SVR 4mT tank to the Highley wagon and the Toad with no problems. Coupling and uncoupling worked first time, every time both front and rear. Didn't have time to test the other van.

I wonder if your default wag is causing the problem? Otto has an alternative on his site , but back up the original if you try it.
