Great Eastern activity download question

Post by TheDonk »

Another newbie question. I am actually getting there with understanding all of this, however, i've just downloaded a fairly simple activity for Great eatern and am having problems with what the readme says. Having exracted the zipped file into the globals folder as stated, i am then required to drag the packaged activity onto the tsunpack.exe icon. It may be a really daft and obvious stunt that i am pulling here, but is this icon supposed to be in the globals folder? if it is i cant find it, can someone just tell me what i'm doing wrong please................ thanks guys, Andy C

The TSunpack utility can be found in:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\UTILS
Geoffrey Swindale.
Truth is rarely pure, and never simple.

Yeah Ok, found it. With it being in a different folder how can the packaged activity be dragged on to this icon? I've tried dragging it onto my desktop then opening the other file, but when i tried dragging the pacaged activity on to the relevant icon, i got a box saying This package requires a route called Great_Easern, UID Great_Eastern.

Are you using trainstore? If you are, you need to unstore the route before the activity will unpack. The easiest way to do this is to select the route in trainstore, and pick any train to drive on it in explore mode. Load MSTS, but don't click on start - just close it again. The route will now be unstored, and the activty should unpack.

Cheers

You should be able to open an .apk by just double clicking on it.
If you can't you need to associate it.

Right click on the .apk file and choose Open With then Choose Program.
Make sure the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"
box is ticked.
Look for TSUnpack in the list and click it.
If it's not there, click browse and find it (Usually C/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Train Simulator/UTILS/tsunpack.exe)
OK Open With.

You should be able to unzip an activity to a temporary folder on your desktop and open it from there. Don't go cluttering up your Global folder.

If it's got buffers it's Chain.

Right ok, i was just following the instructions in the readme. Anyway, i've got it working now, having followed what Jack said to do, thanks for that. I will bear it in mind for future downloads, like i said i'm still getting a handle on all this, so i can say i've made progress by virtue of getting something to work................
