DC4 is a very large & complex route. That's why it takes so long to load and why it's strongly recommended you use Train Store. SVR will load in a much shorter time.

The number of paths being loaded on a route greatly increases its loading time. If you used Train Store you can load just one activity from your whole range. You will be amazed at how quickly even Dorset coast will load then.

When MSTS starts up it reads the activities then checks all the paths and consists for each one. Then in checks the rolling stock for each consist and checks the sounds and cabviews.

It takes along time to do this so reducing the number of files will speed it up.
It seems to retain the paths and consists in memory making it have to load scenic items as it comes to them and increasing the stutter.
Too many consists can even cause it to be unable to load the essential files needed to start causing strange error messages.

Train Store removes all the files except the activity you wish to play and the files it uses.
This program is essential once you have more than a dozen routes.

There are alternative methods but you need to know your way around MSTS to do what Train Store does so easily. Why bother?

Oooops.

Slip of the brain.

I've edited it to make people wonder what we're on about.

I knew what you meant to say! Now they'll wonder what I'm on about - definitely old age.

So long as you use Train Store, it will run at a speed dependent on the route you are running

Yes! It will run slower, then even slower, then impossibly slow!

That's why everyone is telling you to use TrainStore, don't you think?

I have only 3 large routes loaded at the moment. Dorset Coast, Mid East Plus and Thames Mersey. Without Trainstore load time is 25 minutes for Dorset Coast, slightly less for the others. Definitely go with trainstore :)
