Can't get MSTS to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi,
I've downloaded the Great Eastern drag time acitity for Great Eastern, but I've realised that I need to download extra engines to get it to work. So when I go into the game it says it needs such and such file so after saying yes the them after about a dozen it bombs out!
So what do I do (apart from downloading all those engines).
Cheers,
Chester025

Hi,ronald parkin wrote:Hi Chester025, Download and install the requested stock or the activity will never run, In the activity readme file there should be a stock list and you should never install one without first checking if you have the stock and if not downloading it

I'm not actually trying to download the acitvity at the moment (maybe another time) I'm trying to get rid of it!!

Getting rid of an activity once its been installed isnt easy as there as so many components installed. You will have to track down and remove the act file in activities folder, the srv files in the services folder (I think), possibly paths from the paths folder, traffic files etc. You will also have to make sure you only remove ones needed for that pack, not any of the originals. Its probably easier to delete the route folder for GE and reinstall it from scratch, but even that may not solve it.I'm trying to get rid of it!!

There's an easier (and safer) way if you have Route-Riter.
Delete (or move somewhere else) the .act file in the Activities folder.
Run R-R's Check All Activities. When the report comes up, press the Unused... button at the bottom. Select and delete (or move) the unused paths, services, traffic and consist files.

You don't have to use Routeriter - if you know how to use Windows Explorer, just navigate to the Great Eastern Activities folder (usually C:\Programme Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\Routes\Great Eastern\Activities) and move the offending .act file somewhere else.
If you don't know which file it is, and it's the latest activity you've installed, sort the folder by Date Modified, and it will be the one with the latest date (top or bottom).
And if you aren't using Trainstore, you should be - then you could use Easy Mode, and just run MSTS with one activity at a time.

Please have a look at my railway photograph site - http://alan-lewis-chambers.fotopic.net/ - lots of British steam and early diesels

YES - you are right, I was half asleep when I posted, and meant to add that you need to do the same thing with consist files, stored in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\Trains\Consists. You can then find the most recently added .con files, and move them elsewhere.
Of course, Routeriter can do all this for you, and using Trainstore will help - especially in Easy mode.
The real lesson is that you should never install any activity without finding out what additional stock it requires, and installing that first. Read the readme!

If you look for Net Framework in the Windows "Start>Search" function it will reveal whether the files are there. You will have to have Windows XP I think to be able to run Net
This URL links you to the Microsoft site to download Nt Framework

Hi,
I don't think I'll be needing route riter anymore because...................
.............it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was train store that did it, I stored the Drag Time Activity and it worked!
Anyway thanks to those that sent in idea's to help (even if they didn't work) I'd still like to say thankyou!
Cheers,
Chester025

Hi
Great to hear you've stuck at it and got it to work!
I know things shouldn't be like this, but you now know how good it feels to overcome the problems MSTS loves to throw at us all and to come out on top. Savour and relish the moment! It'll baffle you again in its own good time, but having won "round one", you're better equiped to deal with it when it does. Welcome and well done!
Cheers
