MSTS patches

Post by clay001 »

Hello,
I've just installed MSTS on a new PC, it's ages since I've done this and I can't remember if the version that I have (I believe 1.2 as it has the Class 50 etc) also has the coupler patch? - If any one could let me know I'd be very grateful.

Thanks Jon, looking at the list I think I'm covered by my MSTS CDs which were bought in 2004 (unless of course, any one thinks differently...). In the past I've installed the updates "to be sure" with no problems, but on doing this with my latest MSTS installation the sim crashes when I exit it to return to desktop (if I don't install the patch every thing works fine).
Today was supposed to be the big switch on, but MSTS wise has been one hassle after another (Train Store is playing up big time), so I'll leave installing the bin patch until tomorrow!.
Thanks for replying,

Clay.

Hi Clay
A lot of people use the windows key, to return MSTS to the task bar.
When running under XP.
Although I've found the 1.7 bin patch fixed this for me.
Cheers

Hello Jon,
Bearing in mind I'm rather a computer illiterate, could you explain about the windows key? (though I'll bite the bullet and try the bin patch later anyway).
Also, while my pc is far from being top of the range, it's all I could afford and our old one was creaking rather, this one is Vista equipped - I know this is new, but are there any known MSTS issues I should look out for? (given that yesterday I nearly threw my shiny new PC out of the window).

Hi
The 'windows key' is the one with the windows symbol on it (often second from bottom left on a standard keyboard).
It is used to bring up the menu bar .........but by doing so it forces all open windows into the task bar... without closing them.

Ah, there it is, complete with windows insignia (apologies Jon). I couldn't get bin to install (a message about my MSTS wasn't valid), but I think I'll investigate this at a latter date (and I guess on the bin forum). The last 24 hours have been like starting all over again, whereas before my MSTS performed dreadfully but accepted pretty much any add-on I installed, the reverse is now the case - ruddy sim.
Thanks for all your help, Jon.

Clay.

Hi Clay
Thats easy download the update from the link given.
(Your like me...it actually is a backdate our CDs are newer)
Extract all to a new folder.
Copy the 'train.exe' into your TS folder...answering yes to over writing.
Then run the bin patch.
Cheers

...and that works as well, I inadvertently installed it slightly differently, but it works all the same - now to see what Lydford Junction really looks like! (might not have a 'gamer' pc, but the monitor's quite nifty, at least compared with our old one).
Thanks again.
