Warrington railways installation

Post by model321 »

Hello everyone

After downloading all 5 files of this route to my desktop, i went to unzip all files of wcml 1 and bang, up comes a error message saying that the zip file is invalid or corrupt. Have i downloaded to the wrong place?

Any help greatly appreciated

Have a look at http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?t=31226 You need to rename the files as advised and use a recent version of Winzip (not the built in zip support for Windows XP).

If this doesn't help then please post a screenshot of the error.

Kindest regards

Thanks for the help John but i am still getting the same error message 'The compresssed (zipped) folder is invalid or corrupt'. O h yeh this error message comes up when extracting and it does extract only the Wcml folder but no folders contained within the Wcml folder.

Thanks

First thing might be to try downloading the file again - a pain, I know, if you're not on premium membership, but sometimes files do get corrupted 'in transit'.
Assuming you're unzipping with WinZip, that does have a feature that allows you to 'test' the archive; if that shows an error, then it definitely corrupt. Download again to be sure, then perhaps let Matt know so he can check it out properly.

I've tried installing Warrington Railways but all I get is an error message saying "The same volume can not be used as both the source and destination". Why couldn't the creator of the route have upload it here as an installer file instead of this stupid compressed zipped folder+z01-04 configuration.

Hi,
Welcome to the Forum :)
You'll need to use WinZip or 7Zip to unpack the spanned archive. Also, follow the instructions given earlier in this thread regarding the location and naming of the files.

The format is not "stupid"; it's an old route and at that time, many used the same system.

Cheers,
Ged

I seem to recall having the same problem with this myself, and I am sure that I finally fixed it using WinRAR.

That is a good point Ged.

The other consideration is that if it was a single EXE installer rather than a spanned zip the file would be somewhat larger i.e. around the same size as all the parts combined. Then non-premium members would be complaining that it was too big and they can't resume failed downloads if their ISP drops the connection after 2 hours .....

Can't win either way it seems.
Kindest regards

Matt C
To recover corrupted .zip archive look at
Fix zip file
Tool restores zip archives in cases: ZIP file you have been downloading for so long is broken, corrupt and cannot be opened and others.
