Lights not working

Post by expressboy1983 »

Hi,

I've been faffing about with class 180 model for a few days now to try and get the rear lights working and haven't had any success.
I've read the techdocs sections on lighting and can't make head-nor-tail of it.
Would someone be able to point out what's wrong, and give me the solution please?

Any help gratefully received.
Kindest regards,

Hi
You're azimuth is wrong

either

Azimuth ( 0.0 0.0 0.0 )

or

Azimuth ( 180.0 180.0 180.0 )

Cheers
Jon

Hi Jon,

The Azimuth values were 'as is' with the unit. Changing them to either

Azimuth ( 0.0 0.0 0.0 )
or
Azimuth ( 180.0 180.0 180.0 )
has no effect.

Something else perhaps?
Kindest regards,
Simon.

Are you using the bin patch?

If so, can you try changing Unit (3) to Unit (4) in both cases and see how that works.

If that does work, you'll need to add another copy of those lights, one to control AI units and one to control the player unit.

If you look at one of my 303s/311s, you'll see I have rear lights entries for both AI and player units, although it does mean they can only be used with bin patch.

Hi Niall,

Yes I am using the bin patch, but I don't want to make things any more complicated than they need to be. I'll save your suggestion as a last resort in the hope that Jon or someone else finds a non-bin work-around.

Thanks though.
Kindest regards,
Simon.

Hi
I think you misunderstood me .... rear lights have to be

Azimuth ( 180.0 180.0 180.0 )

it tells MSTS to 'shine' backwards.

If they are 'original' lights then maybe their positions are not correct.

Position ( 0.895739 2.0 11.4969 )

Perhaps this should be

Position ( 0.895739 2.0 -11.4969 )

Cheers

Hi
Well when I get a 'tricky' light to set up.... I alter the settings so its always on .... then its easier to position.

ie set the unit to 0

Type ( 0 )
Conditions (
Headlight ( 0 )
Unit ( 0 )

Once you've positioned it correctly .... then you can setup the headlight and unit etc.

Cheers

Simon,

You may have solved it by now. But this works for me.

Both Units to zero. All azimuths are negative. Offset of 1.04 looks better to me, but you could think differently!

Unit ( 0 )
Position ( -1.04 2.0 11.4969 )
Azimuth ( -18.0838 -18.0838 -18.0838 )

Unit ( 0 )
Position ( 1.04 2.0 11.4969 )
Azimuth ( -18.0838 -18.0838 -18.0838 )

Regards,
Chris

Hi Jon and Chris,

Cheers guys! Tail lights now work fine.
It doesn't look odd at 5 in the morning now.

Thanks a lot. :)
Kindest regards,
Simon.
