Intsalling into wrong folder

I recently bought Glacier 2 from Train sim Switzerland, but an odd thing happens when I install it. The route installs itself as a separate folder into my programme files, and when I select the MSTS folder, I get a message saying the add on cannot be installed into it. I eventually tried a manual install from the folder it set in programme files, transferring everything into the relevant MSTS folders. However, when it works now, there are a huge amount of shape errors. Any ideas why it will not install in the normal way, straight into the MSTS folder?

Thanks

I seem to recall that this route installs itself as a 'mini-route', i.e as a seperate entity from MSTS. I don't have it installed any more so apologies if my memory has been clouded by the passage of time. Dave.

Hi There,

Watch out when installing addon from trainsim.ch, I found they re-set the bin patch settings to default MSTS when installed, unless they have fixed it with a new version.

This route installs as a self-contained "mini-route".

Thus when you try & crowbar it back into your main installation; it is not simply the routes & Trainset & Consist folders that need to be moved - I suspect there are a number of "global" files that also need to be transferred.

When routes are packaged this way; I find it is best to leave them as the mini-route setup they come as. I suspect they package it this way; so there is a "standard" setup for support issues.

Dear all,

As Geoffrey states above the Glaci Express 2 is a mini route. It states that there are problems using Trainstore and MSTS Bin. Although it is quite extensive,up to now I have had no problems .

There are 21 activities but very little stock to load.

The launcher is on the desktop, so I suggest that you leave " sleeping dogs to lie as mentioned above".

Kind regards,

Hywel

Thanks, all this was a great help. After 8 years of MSTS I did not know about mini routes!! One point, if I want to make an activity for a mini route how do you load the activity editor etc?

Hi,

On your desktop you should have a shortcut for
Train Simulator_GEX2

If you right click on this and select properties you should see something like
"E:\TS Glacier-Express 2\train.exe" -mem:2048
in the "target" box.
Right click on this and select "copy" (ensuring all of the text in the quotes is highlighted).

Now click Cancel to avoid making any changes to this shortcut.

Next right click on the desktop and select New Shortcut.
Paste what you have copied in to the target and add -toolset onto the end so that it looks similar to the following
"E:\TS Glacier-Express 2\train.exe" -toolset

Give this a new name (Glacier Editors for example) and away you go.
