Problems with cabview on Tornado BG
Hi everyone
I recently downloaded and installed UKTS_25482 DR_BR_BG_A1_60163. After making a consist I tried running it. When it came up in the trainsim the view was looking out of the cab, I then hit 2 key and it was OK in that view including the sound. It also moved off. I looked in the cabview folder and in it is 3 cvf files. I read the readme txt but didn 't manage to sort it out.
Thanks in anticipation.
Regards
Steve

Re: Problems with cabview on Tornado BG
Hi Steve, there seems to be a problem with the Cabview that is in the .eng file, I have looked at the
TornadoAG.cvf which is the one that is in the .eng file line and it is looking for the views via
common.cab/A1/, despite a search I cannot find any of the A1 loco's that uses this file.
Therefore the easiest way to sort the problem out is to move the Cabview folder that you have in the Loco folder
away from MSTS and install the following file :-
Open the zip file all the way down to the Cabview Folder, then copy it into your Loco folder and then open up the
.eng file and scroll down until you see the following line :-
Cabview ( "TornadoAG.cvf" )
change this to
Cabview ( "TornadoRHD.cvf" )
According to the read Me in the above file, you should change the HeadOut display line from
Headout ( -1.375 2.95 -6.0 ) to Headout ( 1.7 3.1 -5.5 )
Save the .eng file and see if that works any better

Re: Problems with cabview on Tornado BG
Hi Steve, looking at the TornadoAG.cvf again, I made the mistake in saying the views where in the common.cab/A1/ Folder, actually the .cvf wants to find them in the common.cabs/A1/ Folder.
No Cabview that I know of has ever used this Folder in the Trainset Files and shows that this the reason why you are
getting the problem when changing views.

Re: Problems with cabview on Tornado BG
An alternative solution is to use a different model of the Tornado which already has the cab view correctly set up - see Ged's post at 2:38 pm on Feb 18, 2011 in this topic :

Re: Problems with cabview on Tornado BG
Hi Bob and Moi
Thanks for all your help and advice.
I have now got it running. What I did was move the BG cabview out of the loco and copied the AG cabview into the BG loco and that fixed the problem. Now that it's running I seem to eventually run out of steam. No matter what I seem to do it just won't make steam.

Re: Problems with cabview on Tornado BG
Hi Steve, are you remembering to close the Cylinder Cocks ( C ) after moving away for a few seconds, as far as driving a steam engine means carefull use of the regulator and reverser.
I had trouble for quite a while at the start but using the advice from the late LAD491 ( Laurie Dickerson ) I gradually got the hang of economical driving.
At the start set the Reverser at 75% then release the brakes and set them at Running 99%, then open the Regulator to get enough power to get you underway without getting wheelslip :- Try 50% to begin with.
As you move away close the Cylinder Cocks and wait until the speed gets to 4mph slowly reduce the Reverser to 50% depending on the terrain, at 25Mph reduce the reverser to 25% and finally cruising at speed you can cut this to 15%.
You can close the Regulator to reduce your Steam usage as you speed up before reducing the Reverser again, so you soon find out what are best settings for a fast smooth pull away from the station.
I have found that once you are up to speed, close the regulator to zero and reopen until you maintain your speed, this causes the steam usage to fall to below the Steam generation rate and so your poor Fireman is not working to hard.
I have found that not always the dampers are not set at 100% so press M until that is achieved.

Re: Problems with cabview on Tornado BG
Hi Bob
Yes I am closing the Cylinder Cocks at about 4mph then gradually reduce the reverser and set the brakes to the running position. I've tried all that you said but probably not just as you've done it. Obviously practice makes perfect. I've also found that the damper sometimes isn't set to 100%. Maybe to stop blowing off though, it needs setting a bit lower.
Anyway, Bob, thanks for all info you've passed on to me, I'll just have to keep on practising.

Re: Problems with cabview on Tornado BG
Hi Steve,
There are a few tutorials around for driving steam engines in MSTS here's one from the tutorials tab on the UKTS home page:
http://www.uktrainsim.com/index2.php?fo ... teamfiring
Using this advice you'll soon be steaming along with more steam than you know what to do with
Best of luck, let us know how you get on.
regards,
Terry.

Hi Terry
Thanks for your input. I remember that tutorial from quite a few years back because I printed it off. I am doing a lot better with it now thank you.

Re: Problems with cabview on Tornado BG
I had a problem with my cab for this loco where it was mostly white but with a few cab controls. I tried what you did and it worked. So thanks for the tip.spionkop wrote:Hi Bob and Moi
