Re: Problems with the Bristol to Birmingham Route Activites
Hi Chaps
I've been struggling all morning to get the Activity "Royal Scot to Birmingham" to run! It hangs as it emerges from the shed. The error messages start with this one, "Can't add car # BR_Green_6028 (uid 20002) to world" and contine through a few more to do with these late King Class engines etc.
I've checked all the downloads necessary, including - "UKTS_23187_BR_King_Multipack_Late_Version_1.1" and carried out step 2 of the unpacked readme, "2. Create a new folder "GWR_Class_6000" in the TRAINS\TRAINSET folder, then copy the files from the temporary folder to the newly created folder."
I'm pulling my hair out now, and Ive even reduced my Display settings to zero, or so called "Best Performance" level.
Can anyone help?
Going out for Sunday lunch now, so I'll check back later.
Regards

Re: Problems with the Bristol to Birmingham Route Activites
Hi Eric
The file that MSTS is looking for but cannot find is an AI version of 6028. Have a look in the King folder and see if # BR_Green_6028 is present (the # is the important bit). If not, you'll need to create an AI version - Route Riter can do this for you very easily.
Come back if you need more help.

Oops! That's what happens with moderating the files sometimes. They lost the original so I had to reupload the thing all over. Sorry!ashgray wrote:Hi Eric
There's an updated version of the file containing the Derby Black 5 locos, which I'd guess is why the original file you're looking for is no longer available.
Try this file:
BR Derby Black 5s [22460402 bytes] - BRDerbyBlack5s-v2.0.zip

Re: Problems with the Bristol to Birmingham Route Activites
Eric,
You problem is the directory. The folder is supposed to be "BR KING MULTIPACK LATE." I think you're reading the original readme to the model by Frank. It's comes in a self-installer, so I don't see how you mixed it up.
Hope this helps though.

The pack I've downloaded is "UKTS_23187_BR_King_Multipack_Late_Version_1.1" and it installed correctly.

I don't think I've understood this correctly? Are you saying that I shouldn't have created another folder in TRAINSET as instructed by Frank - "Create a new folder "GWR_Class_6000" in the TRAINS\TRAINSET folder, then copy the files from the temporary folder to the newly created folder."?
And now, having done so, should I delete that folder and let the Multipack installer just do its job?

Ash - this file IS present in the Trains\Trainset\ folder as are the others it says it can't load. I've downloaded Route Riter but must admit I've never used it before! I wouldn't have a clue where to go from here. If you've time, point me in the right direction please.ashgray wrote:Hi Eric

Re: Problems with the Bristol to Birmingham Route Activites
Erm - a "can't add file" message often means that the consist cannot be placed due to it colliding with something else doesn't it?
Can you open up the activity in Activity Editor and go to Tools, Verify Starting State to see if that gives any errors?

Yes, you just let the installer do its job and delete the other folder you made, unless you have that actual model. If it's just the BR Kings you've put in it then DELETE IT. The sim will go nuts over that!
It should work after that. I will have to look into the act myself and see if my version has any problems. If it does, look out for v2.0!

Re: Problems with the Bristol to Birmingham Route Activites
Hi Eric,
If no activity calls for the folder you have made. MSTS will not even know it is there. Deleting Folders from the Trainset is not a good idea unless you are absolutely sure no activity uses their contents.
As to letting the installer 'do its job' this is fine but it is better to install into a NEW Downloads Folder.
1. You will have a backup of the original.
2. You can make changes to the files that you may want to. EG.Change couplings and sounds even Cabviews, before Copy/Pasting into the relevant MSTS folder.
When you get more familiar with MSTS you will see the benefit of this.
Route-Riter is a bit daunting at first but general consensus is, it is worth the effort.
And of course there is always help on here. Someone will know.
Good luck
Doug

Re: Problems with the Bristol to Birmingham Route Activites
Hi Gentlemen,
Eric, I think the problem you're having with the AI Castles is because you have not installed the latest version of File 23187. You require version 1.1, which includes the AI locos.
Cody, I don't think there is anything awry with the activity (hope I've not spoken too soon
); I've just left Bristol OK.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Problems with the Bristol to Birmingham Route Activites
Hi Doug
Sound advice, I'm sure. I do download all files into new folders created on my F: - remote from the C: on my new pc where MSTS lives. I download all new Activities etc., into a folder specifically opened and named on F: as per the route I'm populating. So our case in point is that ALL downloads for the BTM route have been firstly downloaded into F:\Railways\Bristol to Birmingham\ ..... and then into sub-folders specifically created to recieve them. So your first criteria is met.
I then unzip into those sub-folders and check-out the readme files from the Author BEFORE installing into C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\etc.,\etc. So your next criteria is met.
I'm in communication via email with Mike Simpson in Penrith, NSW, Australia, reference his Route_Riter and the latest update RR2_v7604, so hopefully my troubles on that score will be resolved soon.
The biggest problem I've had with MSTS in all the years I've been using it successfully, has been making the progressive transitions frrom Windows '98, then into Windows XP (which was ok) - and then into Vista and now I'm using Windows 7 Pro.
It's a pain! I retired from teaching IT in 2003. But as they say, we're never too old to learn and that's why I joined these Forums earlier this month - hoping to feed off the experience of you guys. So I'll do my best to catch up - promise!

Re: Problems with the Bristol to Birmingham Route Activites
Hi Eric,
A bit like teaching Grand Ma to suck eggs, then.
I take that on board and I do not think you will have much problem with files. It just the Quirky MSTS that will trip you up (and it will).
But as you rightly say we will be here to help.
Good luck

Re: Problems with the Bristol to Birmingham Route Activites
Thanks Doug
I appreciate your help - as I do from all the other chaps.
I was so excited (if I can be these days) at the prospect of these two great routes (BTM and S&D) being added to my already well-filled Train Store, that when things started to go awry and I had to progressively turn down all my MSTS settings to the point where you are basically looking at a screen full of pixels just to get an Activity running - that I gave in and decided to seek advice!
Too stubborn by half, is what my wife calls me, but I hope to improve my skills on here.
Best regards
eric
