Train Simulator Editors & Tools, Help please.

Sorry guys, looks like the idiot is back again. Somebody probably has already asked this if so, sorry for the repeat of a question. My problem is when I go into the Train Simulator Editor and Tools, it loads up as it should, and when I select a route/activity it's ok also, but if I want to create a consist to put into an activity, the whole lot stops working then, comes up with box saying the MSTS has now stopped working and has a problem and needs to close. The program then shuts down. :( :( I have set up the properties to run as administrator.
I'm at a loss as to whats going wrong. I've used Route Riter ( Latest edition) to create a consist which is ok, but with regard to using an existing activity as a template, or trying to create a new one I've drawn a blank with this, any Ideas? Thanks again for all of your patience.

Cheers, Skylineman

Try setting screen resolution to 16-bit (right-click on desktop | Properties | Settings | Color Quality | Medium (16-bit))

Hi Skylineman,
but if I want to create a consist to put into an activity
- How are you doing this? If you are creating new consists by editing existing consists in the RE consist editor, then RE should accept your new ones straight away, and possibly Yuri's comments apply. However, if you are creating new consists 'on the fly', i.e. at the same time RE is open, either manually or using conbuilder, then you will need to close down RE and re-boot MSTS to allow the new consist to show. If you are really unsure about the way RE is working, then try to untangle what is happening by a process of elimination. You can quickly put together a trial activity by concocting one from several others, knowing that all the components work. This will, at least, tell you if and where you are going wrong with your method, or if you actually have a problem with your system. Hope this is of use,

regards,

Steve

Hi
It could be a faulty eng file.

Hi skyline man???
Sorry I missed your name.

Assuming changing the setting to 16bit did not work. (That usually is an issue when Zooming the route diagram)

Does the Editor crash when you try to select stock an item of stock from the available list?

If so there is a corrupt loco engine file in your Trainset.

Come back for more info.

Good luck
Doug

Clarification here for newbies: The Route Editor (RE) has nothing at all to do with creating activities or consists. One uses the Activity Editor (AE) for those functions.

Hi all,

My apologies - I did mean the activity editor, but you know how life is at the moment, Snow drifts, too many mince pies etc. As a point of interest, and as follow up to John's comments, is our man configured with the MSTS Patch and with the Bin patch? I was trying to picture the learning curve I went through with the Activity Editor (not so long ago) and it was something of a Jamboree bag without the appropriate config mods to MSTS. Of course, Trainstore is very helpful with activity creation in one sense because it helps to mask out badly configured ENG and WAG files ( meaning that they might work but perhaps not on your particular MSTS config!), well, at least the ones not selected to feature in the proposed activity.
