Problems with Activity for K&WVR/Queensbury

Post by spionkop »

Hi everyone

I recently downloaded an activity for K&WVR + Queensbury. This was using a Making Tracks Class 44 44004 diesel. Also in the download was the sounds for Class 44/45/46 which I already have installed. There are five locos 44004, 44007, 44008, 44009, 44010. I have checked all the locos eng files to check that they are looking for the sound file in common sound folder.

Sound ( "..\\..\\common.sound\\PEAKsnd\\45Eng.sms" )
Sound ( "..\\..\\common.sound\\PEAKsnd\\45Cab.sms" )

The readme file that was in the Peak Sounds just said install the sound file into the Common.sound folder which I had done already. Then alter the two sound lines in the eng file of each loco.

When I fire up Train Sim I get the following error messages for each of the locos.

Error reading train database File:
File:
Line: 74

Error reading train database File:
File: Trains\Trainset\MT_DD_CLASS_44_44007\#MT_DD_CLASS_44_44007.eng
Line: 74

Error reading train database File:
File:
Line: 73

Error reading train database File:
File: trains\Trainset\MT_DD_CLASS_44_44007\MT_DD_CLASS_44_44007.eng
Line: 73

It goes on like this for all the locos. As far as I know I've done everything I was supposed to do in installing the activity pack and the Peak sound file.

I would really appreciate some help here please.

Hi Steve,
When a line number is shown in an error message like this, it usually indicates that the loco requires MSTSBin to be installed. With the Class 44 pack, the installer will identify when Bin is present and install the appropriate files; I don't have a non-MSTSBin setup, so don't know if it is selectable in that situation. Line 73 on loco 44007 is the first parameter for Lights.

Sorry if it's no help, but thought it worth mentioning.

Cheers,
Ged

EDIT : I have just confirmed this by copying the MSTSBin enabled locos into a non-Bin MSTS installation, and got your error messages! When I installed the Class 44s directly into the non-MSTSBin system, they worked OK, but there is no option to select which version to install. I suggest that, somehow, you have got Bin locos into a plain vanilla MSTS!

Hi Ged

Thanks for replying so promptly.

I supposedly have MSTS Bin 1.8.052113en installed but during the installation an error message came up.

Train.exe not a valid previous version and could not be upgraded.

It does show that some of it is in the trainsim.

Hi Steve,
To be able to install MSTSBin, you must have applied the 1.4 upgrade to MSTS. If you haven't got, it see here :
http://msts.steam4me.net/MSTS_Updates/index.html
Scroll to the bottom of the page, to the box headed "MSTS v1.4 Train Simulator Update" and click on 'Download'.

Just run the update and allow it to overwrite any files; you can then run MSTSBin.

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged

I did exactly what you advised me to do and now it works perfectly.

I still get the problem with the MT Class 44's in the activity that I downloaded for the K&WVR / Queensbury. The error message is asking for 44004 but that loco wasn't included in the free Class 44's downloaded from Making Tracks.

Thanks once again for the help.

Sorry to disagree, but the locos in the download from this site are 44004, 44007, 44008, 44009 and 44010. I cannot speak for any downloads from MT, but the following are available here :

Hi Ged

Yes you are quite right. I downloaded them again and installed them last night. Now the activity I downloaded for the Queensbury route works perfectly.

I think some of the problem with MSTS Bin was my not reading the instructions properly.

Thanks. Ged for all your help.
