Yorkshire Coast: Problem Firing Steam Locos

Hello, I have a problem with the otherwise excellent Yorkshire coast. I have tried various steam locos, e.g. A8 that come with the route, V2 download etc. and non appear to get any coal on the fire. Whatever the fire mass you start with it just goes down and Tender coal stays at 100%. This is true with automatic fireman and manual firing. You can make firing rate 100% and still no coal goes on the fire.
The same locos work fine on other routes. Any ideas would be most welcome!

Hi g4vvz????,
Sorry I missed your name.
Are you comfortable editing .wag files?
You need to goto the relevent locos in the Trainset Folder, open the *****.wag file and edit the line:-
- Type ( wagon ) to
Type ( Tender )
It is between the 'Wagon' and 'WagonShape' lines.
Backup the loco folder first.
Hope this helps.
Come back
Good luck
Doug

Hello Doug,
Thanks but I checked the V2 I was using (4771) and the .wag file was already type 'Tender'. The A8 tank engines that come with the line don't have a tender and are type 'Engine'.
Any thoughts?
Nigel.

I think I've found it, I had a look at some other tank locos and noticed that "IsTenderRequired( -1)". On the A8 locos this was "IsTenderRequired( 0)". I changed to (-1) and you can now fire the loco! Lucky guess seems to work!
Nigel.

Hi Nigel,
Sorry I was not watching replies earlier.
Well done. Good use of logic.
Have you still got the problem with 4771?
Good luck

Hello Peter,
The route is excellent, great detail and realistic gradients, lots of stock and activties. Very good. The only problem is this firing issue but all you have to do is modify the tank locos as described above. Certainly would recommend the route.
Hello Doug,
Ummm, yes having ended yesterday being happy with my success tonight I found the same problem with the V2, then looked at the forum and seen your post!!! So far I haven't found a solution. I'll keep looking, all ideas welcome...
Nigel.

Found it:
In the .eng file
Replace: SteamFiremanMaxPossibleFiringRate ( 30000lb/h )
With SteamFiremanMaxPossibleFiringRate ( 30000 )
{i.e. delete lb/h}
Now it works! A small thing but it make the difference.

Hi Nigel,
That's great.

I am sure your research will be of use to many who like to drive their locos correctly.
I was, 'When 'er indoors realesed me', going to compare the .eng file with a known working one, line by line.
I thank you for saving me that.
Good luck
Doug

Hi Peter,
Be sure to backup the folder first.
The ****.wag and ****.eng are in the Folder of the stock item you want to change.
your drive/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Train Simulator/Trains/Trainset/folder name
Use Wordpad.
Be careful not to change any Brackets() or Quotes"" or MSTS wil not be able to read the files and give you loads of errors.
That's why you need the backup.
Good luck
Doug

Also, depending on your operating system, it might try and hide the file extension (i.e. .eng .wag ) You can turn this 'feature' of Windows off in the Control Panel.

Of course!
This dinosaur is still using XP, so didn't think of that. Mine is set to show extensions anyway.
Good luck
