Here's my first RS object. It is a working Pennsylvania Railroad manual switch stand with an indicator. Maybe a little more work on the texturing, but I like the fact that I can visually see the position of the switch when driving.

Stupid question:
I don't know where I've seen it... but does anyone know how to make textures without mips. It was something with a suffix while exporting with serz.exe
thx SAD

When saving your bitmap to DDS format choose the "No Mips" option - I then use ToAce to convert the DDS to a ACE format.

"Sad",
I have downloaded most of your work for RS objects. The objects are indeed First Class! I was particularly interested in your comment below.
1. The comment about cartoon appearance. I also use the Microsoft Flight Simulator which has a large library of objects from users/customers. Some of them, and some RS objects, do have a cartoon appearance as developers use fully saturated colors. It is unfortunate when a complex model is colored with "technicolor" art. Weather and use quickly change the appearance of man-made objects.
2. The comment about the trees. I completely agree. The greens, in many cases, are too bright. I modified some myself because they looked like someone was shining a bright searchlight on them while others looked like someone placed a reflective costing on them. Since your "artists eye" is better then mine, I am awaiting your efforts at vegetation.

However, I think that sleepers should be more brown, they now look too "concrete".

Yes, the could be more brown, maby I will change it , but I did it with the following reasons:
-Big differenses in color between the sleepers and the ballast can result in 'interfering' (hope it is the good word)
-sleepers don't stay brown after many years of traffic.
-to much contrast in color makes the scene to much like a cartoon.. (that's why i want to make new trees, the ones of RS are great, but the green is to green...)
thanks fot your comment, i will take it in mind.

They didn't have to worry about frame rates in those days.
Hi SAD
I am particularly interested in the concept of 'textures on a roll' meaning that at times it would be useful to be able to use a lofted texture instead of a sprayed on texture. This is particularly useful where a straight edge is required to an area. At the moment I am using the US Road 1 texture in strips to create tarmac areas with straight edges but it would be nice to have a range of textures to use in this way such as the block paving you have illustrated or perhaps areas with larger paving stones. Alternatively, something like the car park decal which hugs the terrain would be useful but in a range of sizes and textures.
Thanks for your contributions, all of which are top class stuff.
