HST Physics update

The goal of a real world simulation is to have the most accurate physics possible, discuss both the way that things work and the way that they work in the simulator as members try to map the two together to refine the simulation.

HST Physics update

Post by smarty2 »

Hi peeps, Davvebs new physics upgrade to the default FGW Class 43 has made such a big difference to the driving experience, graduated brake release, drivers vigilance warning, stop start routine through the in cab buttons, great! However my parking brake doesn't work as detailed in the readme? Ho hum never mind i can live without that. Head on over to UkTrainsim and download, simple install too!

Cheers

Hi Mart,

I agree with your comments on Davvebs new physics upgrade, he is the man. The driving realism of RS is getting better and better thanks to people like Dave, who's efforts are much appreciated.

I thought at first like you that the Parking Brake didn't seem to work, but like everything in life its knowing how to do things.

There are two buttons, one each side of the Parking Brake light (I had to zoom in to read the wording on the buttons), press and hold the right button to engage the Parking Brake and press and hold the left one to release, the Parking Brake light will light up (white) when the Parking brake is engaged.

Some will probably have 'sussed' this straight away, took me a little longer but thought it was worth a mention in this Thread for those out there like me. :-?

Aaah cheers for that Rob, Doh' And i will concur with the thanks to Dave, most excellent work, i wonder too if we can use these physics on repaints?

The physics can be applied to other livery HSTs. Probably the easiest way is to copy the engine blueprint (class43_drb.bin) to the repaint directory, rename the file and edit the display name and the texture set references within. You will need serz.exe or RSTools to do this. Don't forget to delete the Kuju/RailSimulator blueprints.pak file before running the sim.

You should be aware that if you do this for the "classic" HSTs (e.g the original blue/grey one) you will get the modern ATP style cabview, not the older one.

Hi Dave,
That can be done, even with the "classic" cab and livery, using your files as a starting base. Only some lines to change, the only problem is to find the good ones.
I can send you the modified files, if you want to take a look.

fantastic update.... at last, we have notched brake and graduated release, shame it wasn't in the first release of the game but hey.

just a quick question tho, how do you get the vigulance audio to sound outside the cab as well, i love to use all the views and not just the cab?

or how do you turn the effect that the emergency brakes are applied if not cancelled? it just gives me a runtime error whenever i try to edit it with the rs tools program,

Hi i downloaded this update a few days ago but none of the HST's seem to have the vigilence detector. Am i missing something?

Probably! As stated in the Readme with the update, none of the existing stock is affected. Part of the relevant wording reads as follows:

The supplied files will not overwrite any existing stock. To use this train you will
need to create your own consists in a scenario or free-roam session. See the railsim
documentation for how to do this. The files appear in the locomotive and wagon selection
menus with the same names as the default HST items, but appended with the letters "DRB".

I think cab sounds can be made to sound from the outside view by editing the sound proxybin blueprints, haven't tried it myself, and there are others more knowledgable about the sound system. I did think of added an enable/disable key for the vigilence, but never got around to it. I might add it if I do any future updates. In the meantime you can continously "override" the vigilence timeout at any time just by keeping the spacebar pressed down. This is what I do when I want to do a spot of outside train watching.

Dave,

I have just got this to work, go to Class 43 sound.bin and change the sound component line from Cab to RailVehicle. Then in the Class_43_Cab_Sound_drb.bin change the activation distance ( near the top ) from 2.0000 to 400.0000 also in the controlled loop entry for Vigil warn change the PlayState to BOTH.

The vigilance warning should now sound in the outside views - how far away from the train it can be heard can be varied by the AttenuationStartdist value of the Single sample sound section of the same Class_43_Cab_Sound_drb.bin, the default is 50 metres at which point it will start to fade with distance.

The above can be used for any cab sound such as the AWS horn, I discovered this when trying to get the steam brake operational on the Hawthorn Leslie steam loco, got sidetracked using this to allow say the shovelling sound to be heard within 10m and injectors, blower and brake sounds heard a bit further away.

However in the case of the Vigilance or AWS set up like this there is no way to switch the feature off without changing the file again unless someone knows better !

I used serz.exe to convert/reconvert the proxybin files to xml.

cheers

Dave must say that the rework is amazing. I would like to implament this to all HST's and the Class 66 but never really had a dabble in editing the Bin's and so having a cule any pointers on how to do this would be helpful thanks
