Well actually it is quite important, as a lesson to KRS in which direction not to take the franchise - refer in particular to the 11 page thread on the Auran forum...

regarding the hairy issues Trainz Classics is raising (though obviously any subsidiary debate on that belongs in the Trainz area of this board).

why do people slate TRS [trainz sorry!] so much? theres nothing wrong with it :\ its better than msts for building routes, and so much easier to edit out problems of other creators! ive been a trainz supporter since day 1 and always will be... unless kuju are going to come up with something that trainz aint got im sticking with trainz, coz so far all it is, is ANOTHER simulator that LACKS "unique-ness"[/u]

Since we haven't seen KRS yet or had opportunity to judge its capabilities, I'm not sure how you'd know this?nicknackpaddywack wrote:so far all it is, is ANOTHER simulator that LACKS "unique-ness"[/u]

No one is slagging off Trainz, if what it does floats your boat then fine.nicknackpaddywack wrote:why do people slate TRS [trainz sorry!] so much? theres nothing wrong with it :\ its better than msts for building routes, and so much easier to edit out problems of other creators! ive been a trainz supporter since day 1 and always will be... unless kuju are going to come up with something that trainz aint got im sticking with trainz, coz so far all it is, is ANOTHER simulator that LACKS "unique-ness"[/u]
What's under discussion here is what the KRS ships with in the box and, off at a tangent, issues obtaining and getting to work 3rd party content. It seems Kuju are proposing a file sharing system similar to the DLS, which then prompted a discussion about the culmative release hierarchy. If I get a chance later, I will start a thread in the UKTS Trainz board to discuss the issues arising from Trainz Classics, so it doesn't clog this thread.
And I must echo Ashley's comment - fine if you want to keep your Auranite fanboy blinkers on regarding Trainz/MSTS but the existing pre-publicity indicates KRS will indeed be a unique sim in its own right, totally sperate in context from MSTS, Railsim, Loksim, BVE, Trainz, Mechanik - just about every sim that has gone before.

By my understanding they'd like the distribution setup of MSTS to continue with KRS.KujuAdam wrote:We hope that places such as http://www.uktrainsim.com http://www.train-sim.com and many other world wide train simulation sites will continue to support the sharing of content for Rail Simulator just as they have for previous simulations.

bold text by me. Auran does nothing else for their product(s).KujuSabrina wrote:Just to be clear on Kuju’s current position regarding Freeware.
For Freeware, we will not be imposing any restrictions. We hope to host freeware on the KRS website, but we are NOT stopping anyone else from hosting and we are not putting any form of restriction on Freeware.
All add-ons (whether freeware or commercial) will use the same packaging tool; whilst we can’t make sure that Freeware builders will get it right, we are making sure that we have a consistent method and instructions will be provided.

Noted, though as Klaus points out I was thinking of Sabrina's original post. Probably 6 night shifts down (3 still to go) affecting my memory.KujuAdam wrote:Really?bigvern wrote:It seems Kuju are proposing a file sharing system similar to the DLS, . . .

Of course, it depends on how it all fits together and works but one disadvantage of Trainz content being scattered is that it can cause problems gathering assets for routes if it is not on the DLS but hosted on several different websites. MSTS got round that by having all the objects in the individual route folder, albeit at the cost of file size to duplication.
I'm sure it will all work out in the end.
Hi bigvern,
it is not an issue how it is organized in the simulator. The "problem" in Trainz is that content creators usually don't allow the layout creators to bundle the used content with their layouts (either as separate files or -- technically possible, but prevented by the packaging tool AFAIK, as one big CDP file). "Problem" in quotes because I am on the content creators' side, rejecting a redistribution at least without proper credits (this was the first time I got bashed in the forum when I forbade VMD to redistribute my stuff). If the DLS hadn't existed, maybe the situation would have been different in the Trainz world. Nevertheless, Rail Simulator will face the same problem, independent of the solution Kuju chooses, unless they would force the content creators to give up their copyright, which is a) unlikely and b) probably illegal/impossible in many countries.

Re: Uh oh!
Just to pick up on this point, I totally agree, I think the sounds are one of the most important things in creating a good atmosphere. I also read on the Kuju site a few months ago that reverb technology would be in the game. I can't wait to open up a Deltic or an HST in a tunnel and hear the racketstevecl9 wrote:eg: use of a good sound engine utilised inteligently for an immersive track 'clicketyclack' sound (loud sound feedback from trackside objects - bridges, passing trains, etc - would be a REAL NICE feature too)
yes - it may have been easy to build, but its a different story when it comes to downloading and installing them, I never found one route which didn't have missing dpendancies, and therefore unplayable.nicknackpaddywack wrote:why do people slate TRS [trainz sorry!] so much? theres nothing wrong with it :\ its better than msts for building routes, "[/u][/u]
At least the MSTS routes worked for me.
