Rail Simulator Developments are delighted to announce that we are licensed to use material from Union Pacific for US content of our forthcoming game Rail Simulator.

Rail Simulator is the highly anticipated game being developed by Kuju Entertainment which, utilizing the latest generation of PC technology, delivers the next generation of simulator for the railway enthusiast. I seem to remember a time when UP were totally against the genre. This marks a very welcome u-turn for them.

Hopefully, this will have gone down well (but not as well as an announcement of content detail I guess) on the US forums.

The tone of the message is that the Euro version will be released without the US content, with the US version delayed long enough to build it. I just hope us Brits can download the extra content as and when it is ready. Im confident htis will be the case though.

I'd be interested to know if the European release will be without the US routes and stock as well. I do like our European railways, but I certainly enjoy running huge yank trains too.

3DTS already completed the route which will be included in the KRS release. Most likely that route will be in the European distribution. (No one promised that, but timing would allow it and what would be the benefit of excluding it?)

The UP agreement can only refer to future developments. No one (but the most idealist freeware authors) will model a route where they know that the owners on several rights on the prototype have been difficult in the past -- without having written agreement at the start of the project.

The good point I see in this announcement is that "increases the (financial) potential of the KRS franchise", so it should help get a few additional bucks from the investors which should improve the quality of the KRS version 1 release -- not in terms of additional features, but in terms of quality of the finish (testing and polishing and documenting everything).

Yes i would like to know what the locos would be ... even if we werE not to see them just yet anyways.

Fall, or Autumn, in the northern hemisphere, equates to Spring in the southern half, which is about September. We have just had the mid Winter shortest day, which figures, the weather has turned right nasty.
