Time for some new shots

The Rail Simulator forum was very busy leading up to the UK release on October 12th 2007, this is a read-only copy of those discussions for historic and review purposes.

I'm afraid we ran out of the more interesting speculations.

Adam, please help us out of the pit of stupid speculations, or I will start a few really stupid ones, e.g., is Claire on maternity leave now (and how does it influence the project) or not (and why not)? If that shocked you enough, then please give us a glimpse on some of the following:

Will physics be scripted in Lua, too? I have not heard the slightest beep in the physics department apart from some hints at some details in electric motors. Researching background takes some time, so you really do Kuju a favour in announcing the capacity of the new physics simulation. I mean the dynamics of vehicles and the steam production inside the engine, not the co-processor and the rendering of exhaust.

Will people be scripted? How would the API look like (roughly)?

How will scenarios be configured? There were promising announcements about railways as a network and other remarks which sounded like overcoming the dumb view of MSTS, why are the details kept secret?

Which projection of the Earth will be used?
How fine-grained will the terrain be next to the track? (1m or 8m)

Any news about the minimum radius? Seems to exclude a whole cluster of the scene.

Signalling seems to be quite developed already, can we have a list of events which will trigger Lua scripts so we can start some intelligent speculation?

Now: No one.
In one year: All the people who know about MSTS signal configuration now. In contrast to the MSTS solution, Lua is a proper programming language with a proper manual and proper editors, no WordPad-in-the-dark challenge.

Anyone with programming knowledge will handle the task of getting acquainted with it; like any programming language it looks different than many others; but like in any programming language, the concepts under the hood are not exactly unique.

I myself browsed the manual once when the news were hot (ages ago) but without a concrete programming task, there is not much to do with it. You learn a language by practising it, not by memorising.

Yes, what about the minimum radius? Just for me and the tram-connection, the minimum radius down to 12m is an important feature... also the fixed problem with closed circles, we know from TS. Some News would be very nice 8)

Oh sorry, it doesnt make sense - I must have been tired when I typed that (Bazza excuse #000335).

What I meant to say was, "...that without reasonable minimum curves available it excludes a lot of routes and scenarios".

Bazza, you need more sleep.
Incentroman quoted me, but didn't get the syntax right, and presto, we got you to believe that you wrote something which you cannot remember anymore.

But yes, your wording is clearer, but no, this cannot be the reason why Adam did not answer these questions.
