question: gradients

The Rail Simulator forum was very busy leading up to the UK release on October 12th 2007, this is a read-only copy of those discussions for historic and review purposes.

Yes, easements between different slope gradients would be nice. In real life easement between two different slope gradients is usually circular arc with fixed radius (which depends on design speed). In my opinion, this shouldn't be difficult to program.

But as I understand, usage of those easements is probably already decided. Hopefully it is included. Maybe Adam could clarify?

Where did people get the idea of a minimum radius from?
I was quizzing Richard about various features of KRS last year at the Aldershot show (where Kuju had space on the UKTSLive stand), and I asked him about minimum curve radii...and he said he thought it was around 70m, but wasn't sure.

So, to answer your question. From the horse's mouth!..metophorically, that is!

I seem to remember reading that track curvature will be based on spiral theory. Speculation I know, but I would not be surprised if gradient easements were based on the same maths, rotated about 90 degrees.

Out of interest here is Kuju min radius curve thread :-

Thanks to those who have answered my question.

I have read the post by by Clare. I must have missed this before. This explains things. It would appear as I originally believed that one should be able to create ones own track system and configure the gauge and minimum radius. The default minimum radius being 50m.
