New website update!

The Rail Simulator forum was very busy leading up to the UK release on October 12th 2007, this is a read-only copy of those discussions for historic and review purposes.

Although ive never seen the inside of a deltic cab,im sure this will be as close representation as you can get.If this doesnt please the rivet counters out there then nothing will. :)

Daz
Daz,
There is a kind of cab for those "rivet counters". It's photorealistic one.
This kind of cab interior is a photo of real cab with animated levers, knobs and guages. This kind of interior is implemented in BVE, Zusi and LokSim 3D. Of course the main limitation is the varying illumination during day light and there are very few possibilities. But if you drive during the day, you have a full feeling of reality.

I estimate that "dark and cold cockpit" feature will certainly available in MSTS-X. But who knows.

Adam
Hi Adman
I do hope so.
Preparation and disposal of a DE, could be activities in their own right.
Cheers
Jon
They could, but wandering around in the engine room checking that various valves are in the correct position, checking the level of sand etc and putting the BIS in are likely to be well beyond the scope of a train driving simugame. Who'd want to sit in front of their PC for 5 minutes whilst the triple pump runs before you can press the "start" button? I'd happily do that with a real 80+ ton locomotive, but not on a computer.

If there is a way to turn the locomotive on/off, with associated sound triggers and enablement of the "move" function, that's about all that 99% of users are going to want. The remaining 1% are those who will never be satisfied.

Thanks for the infomation g0fthick,its more assuring coming from someone with hands on experiance

As for starting an engine, something as simple as BVE startup would do,nothing fancy.

Look at it this way: would they simulate the startup of steam engines, involving the user collecting some wood and paper and a box of matches, lighting the match, igniting the paper, the paper igniting the wood, and wood igniting the coal, and then waiting a long time for the water to boil before being able to drive it? If the answer to that is "no", then the slightly simpler and shorter procedures for diesels are likely to be in a similar category.

Don't steam locomotives in real life take several hours to "start up"?

3 hours for a small tank 5 - 6 hours for an express.

IIRC 7hours 30minutes for a US challenger (BigBoy).

I hope there will be good script language for making own instruments for cab as:

Once in the cab, we have fully animating controls which can be used with the Mouse or the Keyboard, covering the; Regulator/Throttle; Reverser; Train Brake; Loco Brake; Wipers Switch; Route indicator and tail lights; Horn; Handbrake; And we even have the little Handbrake Indicator which goes from 'Off' to 'On' when you apply the Handbrake.

I would surely say that there are lots of more instruments in real locos than that. [/i]

I just increased the Deltic cab image size in Photoshop to be full 1280 pixels in width to see what it looked like full sceen. It did not loose to much quality. Still looks wonderful tho!

Of course, must be a slip in then text. This was the cab announcement. Raildriver announce was last year and slipped out of short term memory, obviously. But since they announced support of that Philips stuff, too, they will not have cancelled the support for more topical peripherals like Raildriver.
