In the Shadows

Post by TheTazman »

You may have spotted this but for those who have not check out the Video clip and watch the HST cab you can see the shadow moving over the dash. But you have to be quick to spot it.

From the website: "We are pleased to present to you the second cab renders from Rail Simulator"

Question answered I think, these are renders not in-game shots so how it deals with the shadows is not really possible to tell.

Not really relevant to the renders of the deltic cab though I shouldn't have thought.

I think it looks really good. However, not rivet counting here, but the only thing that concerned me was that in the article when RR from Kuju was explaining what switches etc. would be functional there was no mention of AWS. If they are refering to an "expert" mode then surely they will have functional AWS? I certainly hope so!

Looks brilliant KRS can not wait till i drive a deltic down the east coast main line

But can i just point out that the floor is a bit wrong it should look like this http://www.royalscotsgrey.com/news%20re ... 06_116.htm
With the place where the seats are higher than that where the nose end door is

Sorry to be a pain but it dosen't look right :(

Just how many of the buttons, switches, knobs, and lights will be functional in KRS?

From the article.

RR: At the moment we are still testing and checking that everything we have works in the cab, so here's an outline - the first thing to remember is that we now have fully 3D cabs, with two sitting positions for the Driver and Secondmans; you can also move your view through 360 degrees and see every aspect of the cab. So far most people have only seen screenshots and I think they will love the whole 3D experience.
Once in the cab, we have fully animating controls which can be used with the Mouse or the Keyboard, covering the; Regulator/Throttle; Reverser; Train Brake; Loco Brake; Wipers Switch; Route indicator and tail lights; Horn; Handbrake; And we even have the little Handbrake Indicator which goes from 'Off' to 'On' when you apply the Handbrake.

Cheers

I suppose the question i made should be a bit reworded. I think i should have asked how many buttons and swtiches etc does a deltic for example have, and how many of those would be functional.

Taz

I think that covers what will be functional.

At a glance I would say that in the deltic cab, there are about 20 controls and switches.

I also think that if we wait until every thing is functional, we will be waiting a fair bit longer.

Although ive never seen the inside of a deltic cab,im sure this will be as close representation as you can get.If this doesnt please the rivet counters out there then nothing will. :)

One thing i have noticed is the shadow detail, are these rendered in realtime? or static?,my bet would be realtime soft shadows.

Thanks for the update Sabrina

Pretty sure they're real time, when i played the demo back in 06 at Leipzig the cab shadows reacted to the location of the light source within the game world and did closely resemble the press renders that were released prior to the demo.

I estimate that "dark and cold cockpit" feature will certainly available in MSTS-X. But who knows.

Hi Adman
I do hope so.
Preparation and disposal of a DE, could be activities in their own right.

Frankly, I don't believe or expect that non professional simulation will include a real start up procedure which normally include entering into machine room to switch on various axillary apparatuses like tachograph etc.
Those shareware locosims like Zusi or LokSim 3D include some simple activating procedure but today the most advanced power on procedure in exhibited by BlueSkyInteractive in their own version of Trainz TRS2006 called ProTrainPerfect. You can virtually switch every animated rocker switch or knob or you can select the Auto Startup option and you'll hear all the assossiated sounds.
I don't believe that Kuju will go so far in this matter and even Microsoft will limit the game to some very simple power on activity. Don't expect too much.
