I have a question.
Is it me or are there a lot of useless threads here?

I know it might be exciting, but surely a lot of the questions are simply a "wait and see" answer? I just don't understand why there are so many threads asking questions like "will there be this?" or "will there be that?". I know this sounds like a moan, and it is quite frankly. There has been somr really good threads but many that are just asking questions that are simply a "no" or "wait and see". Hmm.

Depends if it has any effect. If threads such as "on board computers" and that kind of rubbish cease to appear, then no, it won't be.

Realistically though, this is just another waste of bandwidth.

It depends on the definition of "useless".

If you mean "not bringing any insight" then yes, there are many. However, an answer from Kuju to the most meaningful questions (or those questions) would be the best remedy. Not posting is not a solution; one person's good/funny/interesting idea/question/suggestion is another person's boredom. Also it is really difficult to predict which spark light a reasonable discussion and which one dies off without benefit.

If you mean posts that are good for nothing, then there are none. The total number of posts here will be shown to executives as a measure of prerelease interest in the product and community contribution to it. Even if we start a 10-pages flame war about useless comments about useless posts and useless refutations thereof, it adds to the total number and thus "success of the forum".

Finally, remember that waiting for an event with some religious significance is always accompanied by some murmur of the masses, I think it is called Kyrie or Gloria in latin.

the whole thing is called a mass, there are other sections in it that are called gloria, kyrie, sanctus... etc.

Well, so what if people are asking 'Whats going to be in it' or 'When is it going to be released.' We can't all share the same interests/queries and undoubtly there will be threads that will interest some people more than others like on-board computers.

If you don't like whats being written or think a thread is a waste of space, then don't read them. I suspect that you have been reading these 'useless threads' if you know that people have been regularly asking "will there be this?" and "will there be that?" questions.

Frankly, if theres any waste of space going on here its this useless thread about 'useless threads'. This does not in anyway benefit the creation of KRS and will not achieve anything at all, people are still going to start 'useless threads'. So whats the point of this?!

May I point out the description of this forum before you enter it 'For discussion of the new simulator coming from Kuju, the people who developed the original Microsoft Train Simulator.' This thread in no way discusses KRS, unlike the so called useless threads that according to this statement have more relevance to KRS than this thread itself.

Rant over. Gasp.

Given there's been serious answers, I'll add a couple which appears to prove Peter's point.

TMTS Forum opened 11/5/2004, closed 19/5/2006 with 1526 posts.

KRS Forum opened 23/6/2005 and 8734 posts in 18 months.

The only answer I received to any question about TMTS was that I was wrong and it would appear in 2006.

Probably know more about KRS although it's difficult to quantify.

Posts were polite and supportive and months would go by without posts if there was nothing to say which is reasonable enough with a sim being developed.

So why is Kuju and KRS so different?

I havn't a clue but it does suggest the majority is waffle, repetitious or about trainsimming in general terms and therefore not within the scope of this thread. As such the majority of the posts can be described as not relevent to Kuju or KRS in particular or useless. It has some entertainment value though. However, boredom does tend to lead to people getting personal and becoming irrational which damages the image of the hobby which should be a concern for those who want to see it thrive.

Are these threads useless? Well, it depends. On one level you could say yes because its a load of whishful thinking and virtual railway navel gazing. On the other hand, there are people who are interested in an upcoming product and are keen to discover if it provides for their particular needs. After all, we're going to be shelling out nearly £40 for it aren't we? Wait until the product is on the shelves or better still your hard drives before you worry whether the thread is useless.

Useless or not, thread away lads. Sooner or later some of you will hit a target. In any case, we're all frustrated railsimmers waiting for a better product than MSTS or that godawful Trainz.
