Useless Threads?

The Rail Simulator forum was very busy leading up to the UK release on October 12th 2007, this is a read-only copy of those discussions for historic and review purposes.

But there was more interest in TMTS using the number of individual posters. Posts were more supportive and polite. There were far more issues to discuss with it seen as a progression from MSTS, models able to be imported and all that entails. The price would be about the same. It was being discussed for 2 years as opposed to 18 months with less than 20% of the posts.

If no one can explain the huge difference then the accusations of waffle will continue and more people consider this to be a farce as I'm far from being the only one.

That said, there's nothing in the rules to say we can't talk rubbish, I do and it is entertaining in a way :)

Its nice you feel able to have the authority to speak for everyone. I'll think you'll find that not all of us are frustrated and others still hold the contrary opinion of your MSTS/Trainz comment.

I let that one pass, Mike.

Using and enjoying Trainz and the constant sniping of it is similar to the sniping at Kuju.

The whole MSTS is superior thing can be said to have done nothing but harm to the hobby.

But to be fair, some of the moderators on this forum actually work for Kuju, and are here to answer those questions.

Well, newspapers are full of speculation, so do we need to stop those as well.

In view of their inability to get more than about 30% of the facts right in straight simple reporting, speculation and stirring are much safer options....

"Do we need to stops them"? Good question. :-? If Big Brother is anything to go by there's obviously a market for them  If people can watch that they'll take on anything 8)

I actually agree, being a fully paid up GOG, that wish lists and speculation are pointless (especially with "0% response") and to me the only issues now worth perusing are

1) IGA and or Spyware.

2) Restrictions on third party developers (Commercial and Freeware) and who will distribute or control their work.

3) Cost of compatible 3D software for modellers.

If 1) exists I won’t touch it. If 2) exists and 1) doesn’t I’d give it a go but think it’s future is limited (see Trainz debates) and unless 2) & 3) are addressed features like “easy track laying” seem pretty pointless.

With TMTS (we haven’t had a death certificate yet, let alone a funeral!) and MSTSX on the horizon Kuju need to improve on the 0% responses.

Personally I’m far more interested in the challenges that new routes in the pipe line are providing the talented creative members of the community and the progress of the bin patch that gets better by each release.

Doubtless Peter the release date thread in the MSTSX forum sent your BP soaring too? It did mine.

Sam, I’d ban newspapers if they weren’t so useful for lining Rabbit Hutches and Litter trays. There’s always some use for anything

This will be very interesting as all the scrutiny which Kuju have been put under hasn't been seen since the original MSTS2 was announced and even that was far less.

There's now a taste for ferreting around into every word published and asking very awkward questions.

MSTS2 was regarded as a logical progression but things got ratty after a couple of years and the forum was locked.

Not sure if it was ever officially cancelled. TA sim wasn't and options are left open.

The thought of another two years of speculation isn't a pleasant thought but it's already begun.

The immediate requests for a release date were obviously bound to appear. I asked for a rough idea for the reasons I've given.

The usual 'nods and winks' and suggestions people have known for a year and that work started a while back makes such questions inevitable.

This happens every time a new sim is announced and the lack of PR co-ordination results in confusion and more questions.

We can't turn this established behaviour on and off to suit our preferred new sim and attempting to do appears as unpopular as the useless threads.

Cheers

MSTS2 was officially cancelled - there was a press release stating as such.

Or to improve the product. Or to get it out real soon now. And start a big marketing hype then, in which we play a minor role.

Mine not so much.

A) Nice to have a second horse in the race, but only if it is a horse and not a donkey.

B) MS are at the forefront of IGA, and they are known to make every buck out of any licencing scheme. Now you can point at MSTS but I say it was abandoned too early by the executives and if they would not have abandoned it, they might have killed off the enthusiast sector by whatever regulations they invent. I never saw MS taking such a relaxed approach to their investment.

C) PIE, MS, and Kuju are colaborating. I would be very surprised to see them in a fierce competition. Remember that Kuju still have not announced a US distributor. I have not read all the post in the new forum but personally, I would not be surprised if the MS product would not have a lot of one of the other simulators under the hood. The only thing we know from MS is that it will be based on FSX which can be seen as pro or contra.

Don't you receive enough printed promotion material at your door step and in you mail box to do that. I could supply your rabbit with a few square meters every day.

Thanks, I remember now.

It was an age appearing though and at a guess it would've been 2004 as TMTS and TA Sim were announced shortly afterwards.

I'm getting old and the memory's going :)

Ouch!

I darn't even think a comment like that.

Seriously, I'd be very careful as people have a lot riding on these 'horses' and wouldn't want you or UKTS to pay the price for speaking your mind when people are understandably 'twitchy'.

Cheers

I think it's more the promise of screenshots once we've reached X amount of posts that really boosts the numbers.

The number 1 golden rule in releasing a product is NEVER rush it.
Far too many "projects" were rushed out especially in the world of console gaming at the moment. With the X-Box 360 leading the market and Sony making a shambles of the Christmas release they (Sony) thought signing up exclusive games would keep gamers with Sony. . . how wrong they were.

Watch the new MSTSX forum go just like this one, full of threads asking pointless questions.
I mean, maybe it is just me growing into an old fart as I look back on my first few posts and boy did I ask some stupid questions. . . but still, with such a short paragraph on the MSTSX site and no up to date info from Kuju, there isn't really much else to do but wait surely?
