Question about tracks...

The Rail Simulator forum was very busy leading up to the UK release on October 12th 2007, this is a read-only copy of those discussions for historic and review purposes.

Question about tracks...

Post by NicolasS »

Hello!
Well I'm new on this forum. I'm french and I'm working on french trains ready for Kuju Rail Simulator.

After looking at KRS's screen I've a question about the tracks in this simulation. I'm verry disappointed that the trains don't lean in curves. Can you say me if that will evolve?

I'm sure that leaning in curve is imperative for a modern train simulation. what do you think about it?

I think it is almost imperative. I hope it will be implemented (at least BVE style must be implemented). There is some indication from screenshots of a future KRS route editor, that cant/superelevation will be supported. But it remains to be seen in practice as well as catenary system.

It will be implemented in the final release. It is called superelevation. Here are some details on track beyond the press release:

Well Andis I've read this reply from Claire. But I still think that there is a doubt. Because these informations from Kuju are quiet old. And the recent screens of the game don't show superelevations in curves. So that's why I'm dubitative with that.

In the past there were several screenshots or renders which contained one or the other error and when we pointed them out it was said, that this is just work in progress and the errors will be fixed.

Therefore, it is good to remind Kuju about imperfections in whatever we see about KRS, but it is too early to become depressed about the absence of any feature.

Ok Andis, well I'm not realy depressed  , I just want to know any new information about this. But in fact I'm realy astonished by the miss of superelevations in curves in the last sceens. The superelevations in curves is a big revolution for us when we look back to MSTS. Also it is strange that Kuju doesn't show more now... And they starded editing routes for this game.

How about tilting on some trains, the one's the real ones have, like the 390's and 221's, so you can tilt even on flat curves, like the 221's and 390's can

You might LIKE it to be, but it's not as if we (as a forum/community) are calling the shots in this amount of detail.

At the danger of boring someone, but to the benefit of newcomers, may I summarise past debates:
Yes there are emulators. No they are not great for games.
Reason: The graphics systems (libraries) of Linux, Mac and Windows are different enough to make any pure port or emulation of one system to/on another (much) less efficent. Which translates to low frame rates.
Therefore, a version of KRS for Mac or Linux would be possible but it would require significant effort from Kuju. So Kuju will weigh the gain in customer base against the cost of implementation and compare this to other further developments such as multi-player features, and whatever has the better gain/cost ratio will be done.

Whilst Macs are renowned for their great media capabilities, they are also known for being pretty useless if you want to play games.

Chances are it wont see a MAC release, i really don't see there being a large enough fan base to justify the extra funding and man hours.

For Mac users, there is at least a small hope, since Auran is currently porting Trainz to the Mac platform. No release date yet, but known to be in Beta phase.
