Games for Windows Portfolio

The Rail Simulator forum was very busy leading up to the UK release on October 12th 2007, this is a read-only copy of those discussions for historic and review purposes.

I had wondered why Kuju were going to be on the Microsoft stand.

Does this mean RS is Vista only? Would explain why Kuju are still demonstrating the same "special build" version of the sim which has not improved since it was first done. It's a pre-vista version only?

If this is so, is it good news or bad?
Rail Simulator is not Vista only - to date the builds have been developed on Microsoft's Win XP.
what did I tell you!

Richard Rogerson's CES report on the KRS website states:

"We get complimented on our graphics; and RS certainly stands up to the other games on show here; we're running on Vista, but using a RS version that hasn't taken advantage of the new system, so I'm looking forward to seeing that myself!"

I read this as meaning that KRS is being developed to run on XP but it will be optomised to run on Vista under Direct X.

This is exactly what Microsoft have done with their release of FSX.

So those running under XP and DX9 will miss out on some of the nicer graphics features that will be available to those that run under Vista and Direct X.

Fair enough.

I run a Corsa and miss out on the little refinements I would have if I ran a Roller.
