Newcastle-York 1970's

The Rail Simulator forum was very busy leading up to the UK release on October 12th 2007, this is a read-only copy of those discussions for historic and review purposes.

Newcastle-York 1970's

Post by tads1970 »

Hi,

In the featured Newcastle-York route will,Gateshead sheds be inluded?,this forms a really important part of the loop on the gateshead side in the 70's?
As one of the photos shows, with the dmu unit on the bridge travelling towards Gateshead Station, the bottom left tracks come from the sheds over the bridge into Newcastle Central.

Pretty hard to model in a sim,I tried this & found it difficult, hope kuju has more luck :-?

Not to mension Central Station Itself...Good Luck

Yeah, it will be an interesting to see how the Kuju track laying system turns out... I've not tried the previous kuju system in MSTS, however, it certainly looks interesting. The TRS system can be annoying at times, but it cetainly isn't hopeless. I believe my attempt at pre-electrification BNS showed what it could do quite nicely.

my wishes for the new kuju syetm are as follows:
  • A track system which does not come with a hefty framerate cost in complicated trackwork sections
  • A system which offers good tools for those who do want to sit down with a calculator and work the numbers through to make sure that everything is perfect and those who qant good trackwork quickly
  • A system which does not place too many restrictions on tracklaying in the name of prototypicality.... my main concern is that there must be situations somewhere on the vast rail networks of the world where the usual doesn't apply.....

Hi
I was watching a live demo of route building in TRS at the weekend....it was certainly an eye opener for me.
Obviously the guy was no beginner but the tools were fantastic compared with MSTS.
Have to say he also showed me some fantastic stock, including a re-built MN.....and it was gorgeous.
It was also great to see Lincoln built ...with all the track work.....and two stations.
Cheers
Jon

Hi tommylommykins,

I think youve made some valid points here, esp framerate issues regarding lots of trackwork and pointwork.Ive always admired your trackwork in TRS,something i just cant get my head round, but saying that MSTS was just a bit too hard...lol i always ended up with gaps between the two joints or they just wouldnt marry up :o

TRS was much simpler, and your work just shows what can be acheived in a rail sim,oh master track laying guru :D

Do you have any shots of your pre-electrification BNS,i would love to see

here we are, I hope these are to your liking... My aim was to recreate the station layout to less than 1 metre of lateral error according to my plans; I believe I have achieved this well enough for the parts that I have modelled :) The most disappointing thing aspect of this for me is that nobody has decided to take the route any further. I constructeed the route under a request from someone, yet neither he nor anyone else has done more than look at it :¬(

I have been very impressed by what I have seen of the kuju sim so far.... lets hope it extands to track laying :)

Got to hand it to you, im impressed. :) I could never produce anything like that, dont know why anybody wouldnt want to use it,would make a great station/goods yard.

Ive downloaded a few of your baseboards like that, all perfect to be honoust, just so i could look at your positioning and try to figure out how you get such great results, lol i always get memory block after a while and things go pearshaped.......esc button :)

I think escafeld suggested getting a qwail book, had a browse on the net but never really got round to ordering 1 :-?it didnt really turn anything up for newcastle area?

From what ive seen of the track laying tool video it looks pretty straight forward and easy to use...only a good thing, thats not whats bothering me,system spec is

If this is a top of the notch graphic engine with all the bells and whistles it has to offer,i think upgrading is un-avoidable,i-tried the latest military sim just a few days ago on my pc and it nearly went into meltdown it just couldnt cope-the visuals were stunning but fps was terrible,i put that down to my card being a couple of years old. :(

From what ive seen,im looking forward to its release, but not the advertising :(

Thx for posting tommylommykins,i dont think you will have any probs with the trackwork :P

I see that you've done that in TRS. If you found it hard in TRS, then I bet that Kuju will have problems, as Trainz has got an easier track layer.
I wouldn't like to try it in MSTS though.
