New HST Video from GC

The Rail Simulator forum was very busy leading up to the UK release on October 12th 2007, this is a read-only copy of those discussions for historic and review purposes.

New HST Video from GC

Post by henningBR218 »

Hi all,

today I cut together the HST video out of some snippets of digi cam movie shots from KRS Demo @GC in Leipzig in late August.

It shows:
1. loading screen
2. HST approching station with passengers on platforms
3. HST cab
4. seemless zooming around
5. Passenger boarding/deboarding, resp. fading in from off/into off
6. crashing KRS (before HST could crash :D)

Again:
Comment upfront: movie is a free hand shot with digicam (640x320@15fps)
quality is bad, your eyes could be damaged... 0X
so, you have been warned

HST Video (V100) is filed here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg8HLhsnW0Y

... have fun. maybe you find a few more details to discuss here.

... its from the KRS Demo route. Should be fictional stations or parts of stations for the routes included with the sim.

I remain to be convinced.

Like other posts it looks too much like Trainz for me which I've tried and absolutely hate.

The early screenshots of the Black 5 etc raised hopes but these latest shots, no.

A film or TV trailer should take the very best shots out of the film/programme to whet the appetite . . . these are making me feel well sated with MSTS.

Did anyone else notice that about a quarter of the way in, when at the station the camera goes to external view, a pedestrian can be seen to walk through a bench? One hopes they're going to sort that one out.

Amazing, how many people compare Trainz and KRS, which pictures and videos were taken in very low quality

I found very nice usage of HDR lightning in this video (at about one third, when in-cab camera rotates to side), which adds to realism at least for one level. If anybody played both Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One with HDR completely supported, then you know, how big difference realistical lightning makes. Not textures, but lightning, that's the thing.

And underlying graphical system of KRS is vastly superior to that of Trainz, that can be seen even in those low quality videos.

i think part of the problem why i dislike trainz is the lack of detail in the cabs. just does not do it for me, at the end of the day also your just on a model railway set. thats always in my mind when trying it. with msts and KRS you get the feeling your in a higher wuality sim.

I like both Trainz & MSTS, they both have their own advantages, admittedly TRS2006 was rubbish, but TRS2004 SP4 was a good product, well made. MSTS, has its benefits over Trainz (activities), but has flaws also.

I think it looks nice, I'm sure you can change the game lighting in the options.

That's because it's a demo route, and was made for Leipzig, it's not Paddington.
