Well my 50 might be in there, just giving it a long thought before I sign anything :)

The 50 is owned by me and a Trainz group called UKBL http://www.magandy.net/

Looks like the rumours are in fact what is in store for us all.
Let's hope that all if not most payware providers band together and ignore all of Kuju's advances.
Without the add ons the sim becomes a dud.
IMHO they have shot themselves in the foot well and truly through greed.
As most payware providers are small cottage operations if the figures being rumoured are fact as well , all will be either working for nothing or at a big loss.
Personally I think the Bin patches once the bugs are ironed out will be a real threat to this new sim.
Let's face it , if someone had have said 12 months ago that it was possible to do what we can now do ,we would have been calling for the straight jacket.
In twelve months time the mind boggles as to where it might be by then
if George can tweak some more out of the old girl.
Wouldn't it be ironical if Kuju's five year old work becomes the big danger to KRS.
The way they are going Kuju and EA will themselves turn people away from this sim.
What is needed now is for all to ignore them for a change.
Then some time down the track the alarm bells will be ringing as to why they can't get payware providers.
After all it is all controlled by supply and demand.
All it needs is a bit of solidarity between us all.
Cheers
Ian

I think this is the important bit:
Kuju is committed to supporting the freeware community in the creation and sharing of trains and routes over the internet. http://www.railsimulator.com will be a central place where community members can share, rate and discuss freeware but we will NOT prevent any other websites from offering the same service. We do not intend to restrict freeware, we want it to grow and be accessible to everyone regardless of location, language and particular interests.
(Italics added for emphasis)

Just so long as we don't end up with the shemozzle that is the Trainz download system. Honestly, TRS2006 was pretty good, except I could never get all the files I needed from the download station.

Hi Mike
Some of that stocks looks rather good.............but I can't see a class50 ?
Do they work in TRS 2004, as I own a copy of that, but never installed.

Funny, l said something like that earlier this year, got publically ridiculed and told to shut up, well....smug git mode....told you so !.

Ian l totally agree, however some will bite the bullet and join the system, there is always a small minority that will, cant blame them, they may see it different, however if just 50% stay away then the damage will be drastic.

I was thinking of doing the 50 as a "Project" for KRS.

Although I am well into these electrics right now.

I do enjoy this hobby and do what I do for the love of it above all else (feel free to gag now)

I can see some nice freeware coming post release if commercial turns out to not be viable though.

If you remember Mickoo I was agreeing with you then and still do.
True you'll always end up with a few that will not take a stand.
Though cannot see why anyone would want to pay the royalties when
we can still do as we are now with the improvements made in MSTS
by the very clever George.
Now why in hell would we want to pay extortion money to Kuju and EA,
which if the figures bandied around a while ago would be way over our
total gross anyway.
Both Kuju and EA must have some vision of us totally different to the cottage industry it is.
There must be some vision of us sitting in our palatial office with drones doing all the workload.
Nothing is further than the truth.
What little is made is put back in in most cases to pay for materials, software, hardware and exhibition fees etc.
I suppose we will find out eventually how many paythe price but 50% is a bit over the top isn't it?.
I personally would be very dissappointed if that figure is correct, where if we all stuck together on this issue i am sure there would be a quick change of heart and a quick reversal of this policy.
Cheers

Ian,

Indeed you did, as did a few others ( privately ), though less vociferous than l did, now the die is cast so those that stood in silence or mocked our stance have nothing to complain about now have they ?.

Oddly l'm incensed at being proved right, because this latest stunt will do nothing but damage all round.

Kuju of course have a right to get a fair return for there efforts....l'm sure some one will bring that up in due course, however there is return for 'there' efforts and there is return for 'others' efforts, if you want to make a return then build addons yourself, dont climb on the back of others hard graft. Quite simply, people are not going to put up with it.

l'm sure we should all be grateful for the 'new' game and fall at there feet to pay the license fee, which the amount has not yet been clarified or the shipping arrangements ( because this is where the real money is made ! ), but somehow l think people are going to back away sharpish.

Regarding MSTSbin, if KRS feel that this little utility is a threat to there new sim, and it sure as hell looks like it right now, then you'd be best assured they will 'see' to it that it isnt for much longer, so back up your bin files as they may well dry up in short order.

Hi All

I too am extremely disappointed with Kuju's announcement and I sincerely believe they are taking a very short term approach with their new simulator which will have disastrous repercusions for them in the long term.

MSTS has grown from strength to strength since it was released due to in no small part Bill Gate's liberal approach with his simulator - although Kuju developed it they were contracted to Microsoft and consequently it is a Microsoft product not a Kuju product.

George's brilliant MSTSBin utility in my opinion is very secure indeed as Microsoft are continuing to allow the MSTS community to improve their product for which we are all very greatfull.

I consequently cannot see how Kuju could prevent George improving MSTS with his MSTSBin developments.

Regards

Mike

I can't for the life of me see what part of this announcement poses a threat to MSTSbin. Was there some hidden text that I missed?

Can we try and keep our discussion a bit lucid?

Speaking as a payware route developer I think the bottom line will be in the answer to the question: What is the fee? If it is nominal (and everybody can define their own number for nominal) then it'll have no significant downside effect. If, OTOH, the fee is substantial (and again everybody can define their own number for substantial) it will shut out existing payware creators who think the fee too steep. And with most being micro-caps as they say, that'll be a large percentage of the whole.

We simply won't know w/o getting the details from Kujo (and I asked on Monday right after reading the announcement).
