I think the important thing is that these screenshots show it should be possible to create stunning models to run in this sim even if some of the models provided within the sim do not please.
If the KRS Deltic isn't perfect when released there's no need to panic as the MSTS Flying Scotsman wasn't perfect either. In the case of the Flying Scotsman the community made a better version so chances are history could repeat itself as the Deltic is very popular.

This is a fair point, though IIRC most of the default stuff that came with MSTS was pretty much of the same standard.
With KRS, the black 5 and HST both looks pretty damn good as default stock. The shots of the deltic (admittedly not in the sim where they will look slightly different) show a model that just doesn't look quite right, particularly the nose and headcode box. There's a good chunk of the community that are probably more interested in the north east route set in the 70's than say steam era S+D or current day Paddington, and the deltic clearly isn't going down too well.
Let's hope it gets the necessary tweaks so we're all convinced....

I don't think its a case of pleasing, the other three models are exceptionally good the last is not of the same elk, of course no model is ever perfect, they never are, but some are more perfect than others.ForburyLion wrote:I think the important thing is that these screenshots show it should be possible to create stunning models to run in this sim even if some of the models provided within the sim do not please.
As Jon pointed out, these 'points of interest' were spoken about when the loco was first aired and as also noted have not been changed, they are not major fixes, the model is built in Max, those proficient in Max know its power and the corrections would be a matter of but a few days concentrated work, however it hasn't been done, therefore what else isn't going to be done, what else is going to be ignored that the community points out.
Going one step further, whats the point of the forum, if there not listening to constructive observation on simple points on one loco, are they listening to anything else on the package, before you know it, it just becomes a public mouth piece from a'n'other commercial concern and we all know what happened the last time we had those.
Back to modeling, Drkangel hit the nail on the head, you can build exactly to plans ( sometimes inaccurate ) as often as you want but in model form it never captures the 'feel' of the loco, thus you need to bend the visuals, certain parts grow and others shrink to give the charisma of the real loco, it is quite common for steam engine boilers to grow in dia by 3-5% to make them look better, they may not be accurate but they do 'look' right.
Diesel and electric are harder to make but only in the sense that there's very little to distract the eye so the overall form has to be damn near perfect, steam has lots to distract the eye with big wheels and valve gear, lumps and bumps here and there. Boxes with wheels are easier to make but harder to look right, steam is easier to look right but harder to model.

That's good to read.KujuSabrina wrote:Thanks for your comments on the Deltic, just to let you know that this is a pre-Beta model and the final touches are yet to be made! When all the engines go through Alpha and Beta phase they will look better - and be more accurate!
I hope the responses so far don't discourage you from releasing further pre-Beta model previews - perhaps by adding a disclaimer that if they're pre-beta.

Hurrah! They listen!
Btw - strange choice of loco too, wonder why they chose no.1 when there were far bigger celebs out there?

Well 55001 was the first Deltic I spotted when I first walked into Kings Cross so I always had a soft spot for it. Nowt wrong with St Paddy.alisterbetts wrote:Btw - strange choice of loco too, wonder why they chose no.1 when there were far bigger celebs out there?
If you want to get obsessed by "celebs" then I guess that is par for the course these days.
Perfectly happy with St. Paddy but remember it best in two tone green. It was the Hornby Dublo 3-rail model with die-cast
metal body, being significntly shorter than the prototype and lacking detail but it was as tough as nails and could pull a massive train. I still have my St. Paddy which is now a collectors' item.
