KRS UKTS?

The Rail Simulator forum was very busy leading up to the UK release on October 12th 2007, this is a read-only copy of those discussions for historic and review purposes.

KRS UKTS?

Post by pendolinofan »

Hi,
does anybody know yet if there will be a UKTS-style download site for KRS? Will probably buy because of S&D and black 5 and super graphics, however this would confirm it for me.
Thanks
Pendofan :D

Yes...UKTS ;)

UKTS isnt just for MSTS (Though you would be forgiven for thinking so) as it also caters for Trainz

The way I understand a deal with an outfit like EA is that they will be the sole distributors of everything they contract for and not likely to give a cut to anybody else for doing what they are in business for !

LOL

If people upload stuff here, it'll of course be most welcome and I shall certainly be looking to add features to support KRS.

If there are other options open and nobody uploads files here, then you can go use them :)

I'm pretty sure one way or another there'll be a download site.

Sounds remarkably like Microsoft's (TM, copyright etc.) attitude to anything they put their name on, yet train sim sites full of MSTS add ons have appeared all over the world.

As long as there's the option to install 3rd party add-ons, I doubt anyone will try and stop UKTS from hosting KRS freeware.

Hi
I think this has been thrashed to death in other threads....there are two opposing views....no one knows the correct answer yet ......and Kuju arn't saying.
Something I did notice was a RRP of £34.99 for the sim was quoted the other week.....this sounds very cheap to me (MSTS was £49.99 on launch 6 years ago).
This would go towards the school that thinks, 3rd party addons will be expensive by the addition of expensive licencing fees. It would make good business practice, you get the customers money another way, but make the game look competative on the shelf.
My main (only) concern is that hobbiest modellers will not be able to compete, and their models will look too poor to use along side.
(I know this doesn't bother many UKTS members)
Therefore IMO we will get a superb sim, but very little variety of UK stock of all eras....similar to the Trainz situation.
Cheers

Hi there,

The long anticipated Microsoft Train Simulator was launched at The Model Railway Club's HQ, Keen House on 20th July 2001.

I reckon that is only 5 years ago   .

Cheers,

Alan.

I have a feeling modelling skills will improve, or with a game which supports more polygons before falling over more detailed models will become avaliable. Look at decaopds latest work at 13,000 polys....

I excpect that if KRS supports 3D Canvas we will be able to make third party addons to include in the game.

Hi Chris
Again this has been thrashed to death in other threads....but basically I'm lead to believe, 3D canvas is the very cheap version of the actual software required.
Hence my comment there will be no comparison between fully commercially produced models and hobbiest ones.
Where as technically everyone has the same tools ATM, and the differences are in the skills of modeller.
Cheers
Jon

PS I believe the record on poly count is Paul Mitchells Britannia

"BR Standard Class 7, 4-6-2 70000 'Britannia'.
Be warned the model has a high poly count 33,749 including the tender"
