Will the new Sim have the same controls

The Rail Simulator forum was very busy leading up to the UK release on October 12th 2007, this is a read-only copy of those discussions for historic and review purposes.

Will the new Sim have the same controls

Post by RobertM »

To all, :D

I was wondering if the new Sim will have the same basic keyboard controls as MSTS, regulator controls for example, as I would like too avoid having too look through the manual and have a good memory session revising all the keyboard controls

This is my least worry, esp. as I don't own MSTS  Anyhow, I personally don't care that much. If any increase in the level of reality requires a change of some keys, go for it!

That's actually a very good point Robert. I think in editor mode there are bound to be changes but when it comes to driving it can'be much different can it?

Would be better though if you could set your own keys. Can you do that already is MSTS? Can't say I've ever looked myself.

I'd say a fully configurable system is better.

There was a previous post on this topic called 'train controls' that might interest.

Rail Simulator is designed with configuration in mind, it’s too early for me to be specific but we are aware of the potential cross over of our customer’s therefore we are investigating the possibility of user configurable keyboard setups :)

It should not be too difficult for KUJU to make it possible to assign train sim control functions to keyboards and external driving consoles like the RAILDRIVER, the same way as can be done in MS-FS and to some extend in MSTS / Options.
