UP Challenger and Big Boy

I'm only floating ideas here but would RSDL consider doing these for their US Route? Always liked these Steam Monsters... particularly the Challenger in the Two tone grey livery and smoke deflectors. I would be tempted to have a go myself but I wonder If I would ever get it finished... I can see some technical difficulties with the front articulated bogies and associated flexible piping.

I have some excellent colour side profiles of both locos... but anyone building them would need a lot more drawing and photo detail so if anyone can source that info they could perhaps post here?

Hi Matt

The challenger is a particular favourite of mine too..

There are others too.. check out the Iron range Yellowstone's

I have just returned from North of lake Superior where they used to run.. now that would make a route :D I managed to get some reference material nowhere near enough to start but its fascinating stuff 2000 tonne iron ore trains on 1in 80 grades for 20 miles...

I will keep trying to source material, if I find anything of interest I will pass it on

Cheers

The pipework alone haunts my sleep, good luck to anyone undertaking this.

Derek.

As Union Pacific is a launch partner with RailSim.. do you hold any sway with getting info on UP's preserved Challenger ? Drawings etc

I am back in the USA in sept and I am hoping to catch the Challenger whilst it is on a trip to St Paul, if not I may just go to Laramie :D

I've been contacted by a guy who intends to do the Big Boy but it will be a massive project... so i wish him well with it. If you fancy a go at the Challenger Sly I have a very detailed side view that I could send but I suspect you have enough on your plate with the Britannia? :)

Hi Matt
Yep the Brit and numerous projects underway need to be put to bed first but I will continue trying to source data ready if I ever get chasnce
I would fancy a go at the challenger over the winter... I will see what data I can collect when I am over there and when and if I start I will take you up on your offer of the elevation.

Challenger would be a good subject as they occasionally got used on passenger workings.. unlike the bigboy or Yellowstones
