Pivoting scenic items & weeds in the track/roads
I'm sure this has been done before, but the search function gave me 15 irrelevant replies to "pivot"...
Is there any controllable way of pivoting scenic items? (where you click on the yellow ball at the origin of the 3 arrows, and then the slightest movement of the mouse causes it to go completely upside-down)
And whilst i'm at it, is there any way to get rid of those weeds the grow through the track and roads without covering a 20m wide corridor with concrete? "Grass without foliage" seems to have been something of a lie...

Use the F & G keys to rotate your objects.
There is a grass without foliage texture, but only any good if your next to the same grass texture. The foliage spreads like Japanese Knotweed, so the neighbouring texture may spread a few squares.
Being able to de-foliage an area would be a welcome RS improvement.

I've got the F&G thing, it's getting it so the base isn't horizontal that's infuriating me...

The best way to get rid of the weeds is to turn off procedural flora.

If you hold down the "shift" key while you are rotating the yellow ball with your mouse you should find that the rotation speed is slower and more controllable.

You point of view must be above the object. The Editor does odd things when your view is at ground level, at least on my system.

I personally rotate objects in this manner at ground level, but look straight at the plane I want to rotate it in. You have to be careful where your initial click is on the ball as this will effect the rotation. Make sure your initial click is central if you want to avoid twisting the object in another plane.

Hmmmmm.... Methinks RSDL should create a Rail Sim version of Agent Orange, and a weed spray train for us to drive around our layouts and routes, to clear the foliage ?paulz6 wrote:Use the F & G keys to rotate your objects.

You guys are so spoiled! Just look at the railways in Eastern Europe, you'd be lucky to see the tracks hidden among the weeds.. only half joking. Really though, many of the grassy textures cover tracks indiscriminately and there seems to be no easy way around it. Fortunately some of the talented model creators are coming up with track gravel lofts that seem to help when this is an issue.Hmmmmm.... Re: Pivoting scenic items & weeds in the track/roads
It's not the weeds in the trackbed that's the problem (even some UK railway lines look like that these days) but roads and indeed rivers are another issue. There ought to be a routine in the code that disables the procedural flora wherever a lofted object is laid across it.
I think you will find the "lawn" texture with the IOW doesn't have spiky grass sticking up so offers another option for removing procedural grass under roads etc. And (IMHO) the lawn is a nicer shade of green than the default terrain texture!

Re: Pivoting scenic items & weeds in the track/roads
That's a very good point. I wonder if it would be possible to remap the 32-odd terrain textures available to the upper slot range (IDs 33-64 or so) and have them modified so they all use the 'grass without flora' blueprint. This would give a nice alternative to the default texture behavior and wouldn't be too hard on the route builder side. Rivers do indeed look funny with the swamp-like effect created by all the grass above the water surface and personally I'm having trouble with eliminating the grass from tunnel entrances as well. (Repainting with a flora-less texture repeatedly yet the original grass stays suspended in mid air.)I think you will find the "lawn" texture with the IOW doesn't have spiky grass sticking up so offers another option for removing procedural grass under roads etc. And (IMHO) the lawn is a nicer shade of green than the default terrain texture!
Certainly something to think about.
