Thanks for the tip. Made the registry changes and everything is OK now. Thanks for a fantastic tool. Any plans for future enhancements?

Re: KRStool up
Yes, it's an ongoing project. This is just the first version I felt was worth sharing. Marc has already given me an idea of what would be nice to add by mentioning route markers and I have a couple of other things already on the to-do list.jkxx

Nick, thanks for the screenshots. Indeed one of them shows a specific kind of error that I might be able to fix. I'll see about updating the code to include some possible fixes for that. Btw, with the report you mentioned, could you take a screenshot of that too? I'm especially interested in any parts that talk about 'Exception's in them. Thanks for taking the time to do the screenshots, I had no idea what people were getting exactly before seeing them.

EDIT: For those still getting errors stating KRS is not installed, please check http://jkansoft.mine.nu/cgi-bin/jkansof ... o=2&aux3=1 and try the latest version. Instead of just double-clicking on krstool, go to Run and try to run it as C:\Path\To\KRStool krstool krspath='C:\Path\To\KRS' - this should hopefully take care of that error.

Hi jkxx - I've tried the latest version ( 0.327) and the only "exception" I can find is this:jkxx74 wrote:

I'm afraid I couldn't do a screenshot of the whole error - would have been a couple of hundred images!

Followed Paul's route and tweaked the registry - all working now. Bit baffled as I have Upgrade Mk2 installed. Great tool...

Re: KRStool up
Any clues how to download it,always stops at 23% ?
Re: KRStool up
The program does seem to run ok. But I have not seen any new trees??
What triggers the application of tree objects? Is it a forest texture?
I have two very simple test tracks. Single tracks & no objects. In the program I get a black Terrain Sat Preview. Is there some minimum criteria for a route to cause it to show on the display?

Re: KRStool up
Sounds like you have a flat route, most likely the elevation is 0. Try opening the tree script file and changing starty to -1 and endy to 1, this will likely cause trees to appear in the test route.The program does seem to run ok. But I have not seen any new trees??

Another approach to downloading might be to go to http://www.yourcheat.com/ and put http://jkansoft.mine.nu/ as the URL to browse. Then click on the Software tab and try downloading KRStool as usual. I hope this helps.

Re: KRStool up
This certainly looks like a most useful tool to speed up scenery placement. I had no problems downloading the program and it runs correctly. I had to reduce the 'starty' and 'endy' values and the density value to get trees to appear more realistically in my route as I found the initial density too high. As to the terrtex tool, I would like to reduce the number of textures and to make the 'patches' larger as I find them too small for typical UK/Irish countryside. How do I reduce the number of textures to use and which parameters determine the size of patches? This is not obvious (at least to me) from the instructions. (I tried deleting the textures that I do not want, but this only crashes the program as it is looking for 32 textures). Is there another means of telling the program not to use particular textures?

Re: KRStool up
I tested this and it worked fine. Although not documented, the numbers at the beginning of each texture line should match the textures in the Texturing.xml, and must be listed in order:moranb wrote:(I tried deleting the textures that I do not want, but this only crashes the program as it is looking for 32 textures).
Code: Select all
<map>
11 kuju\railsimulator\environment\terrain\farm_land\ploughed000 124 32,31,14 123,103,73 5
</map>
<opt>
bmpoverlay=1
mixlayers=0
aa=1
smooth1=0
smooth2=0
smooth=2
grid9=1
</opt>Re: KRStool up
Thanks for that. I was stupidly renumbering the textures in sequence. It works properly now, though I am still wondering how to enlarge the patches as some of them are unrealistically small and the shapes of fields generated are sometimes very strange. It strikes me that this tool will be more useful for more distant scenery than for close-up work.

Re: KRStool up
That's what I've noticed as well. Maybe adding more parameters to the next KRStool should help with that. Meanwhile, there are a couple of options:Thanks for that. - take some textures out of the definitions in the texx file (do not change any of the numbers, just remove the unwanted textures)
- get L3DT and generate some 'flatter' source terrain bitmaps; I should probably explain how to do this in the web page
All possible textures are listed in that texx file to accomodate as many terrain variations as possible. If your terrain will be primary countryside, it might help to just leave the grass, meadow, and similar texture lines and then set both smooth options to 4 (the max). This will reduce the appearance of texture boundaries somewhat.

Re: KRStool up
Hi jkxx
A small problemo.
I tried to install the program on computer No 1 but kept getting a Windows error report. That can wait until another day to be fixed as per details on this thread.
I installed on computer No 2 and all went well until first starting where I was advised that the routes.xml file could not be found. The program still loaded however indicating that it was looking on my D drive stripe for the Rail Simulator folder instead of on the C drive where it really is. No routes to chose from therefore.
How can I point the program to the correct location of the routes.xml file? There seems to be nothing in this thread about it.
Thanks

Hi Geoff - check your registry setting as mentioned here http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 5#p1038765Acorncomputer wrote:Hi jkxx

Re: KRStool up
Nick is right, you can edit the registry and get it started that way. Another workaround that was added to the latest beta is to use a command line switch. First, find out where in C: your KRS is installed, then find out where you extracted krstool. Suppose you have krstool in C:\krstool and KRS in C:\Program Files\Kuju\Rail Simulator. Then you would type the following at the Run line:
C:\krstool\krstool krspath="C:\Program Files\Kuju\Rail Simulator"
This will get you going without the need to edit the registry. I hope this makes things a little easier.

Re: KRStool up
Hi Nick & jkxx
I managed to edit the registry on computer No 1 and the program loaded straight away. This was relatively easy with the guidance given although I too am right up to date with the MK2 upgrade.
The program seems to run a bit erratically, however, and whilst serz does its job for every route selected, when it has finished this does not always show up tiles in the tile selector window. When tiles do show up, they can be selected and a I tried the example autogen trees but nothing seemed to happen although the text in the bottom left corner of the screen indicated it was processing but I waited and the message did not change.
Unless you can recognise anything obvious with this then I think it is just a matter of me spending a little time to see how it works. I am interested in trying out a variety of assets to see if different 'classes' of terrain can be autogenerated, a bit like the autogen system that will be a feature of MSTS2.
