Re: Wear Valley Railway
Well this thread went under my radar.
Derek, I've heard you mention your plans to do this route earlier this year and you've certainly not been holding back, with plenty of progress made.
Am I right in thinking that the 37, 101 and the 03 will now be completed under the RSDL banner?

Re: Wear Valley Railway
Hi, Yes the current plan is for the 3 locos mentioned to be done in RSDL time.
Which clears the way for me to produce my route outside of work.
I do not route build at work so I do not feel like I am working 24/7 and while I have done some laying of assets, it is mostly new to me.
I'm having fun (also remembering to back up every couple of days)
Having a family means time is hard come by, time to sit and 'play' on the computer as my wife puts it is even harder.
Still managed to grab a few hours to create the station bridge.

Re: Wear Valley Railway
Thats amazing Derek !!! - are you sure you're not using individually sculpted stone blocks for these models ??

Re: Wear Valley Railway
Hi,
The model is fairly simple, the texture a 1024/512 (bigger than i wanted but it is so close to the station, so i will forgive myself)
The photo was a good one, so it made the texture easier. There are a few repeating patterns that I want to get rid of before i am happy with it.
I often start making the texture first, rather than the other way around which is often the norm. Maing a model fit a texture is easier when it comes to structures and buildings.
It will be nice once I get the signal box done that sits in front of the bridge.
regards
Derek

Re: Wear Valley Railway
Hi,
The bridge comes as one asset.
However there should be a wide range of assets that can be used in a number of places for other peoples routes.

Derek

Re: Wear Valley Railway
hi, ...
The bridge looks great. Beautiful stone, very massive.
The passage height is only for cars or for locos?
In the editor sees them low and then probably for cars.
greetings ice

The height is for locos, it is the correct size.

Re: Wear Valley Railway
Sorry but wouldnt it be better as a seperate item? you could also have the supports as a seperate item to as you can use other bridges with them to.
Sorry but the only reason why im moaning is becasue we dont hardly have any creators for RS as you know.
But us route builders need to get the most out of the assets wich we cant becasue the people who make assets always have other things joined on.
The items seperat could be used in 100s of different ways but the way things get made atm thay can only be used 1 way....

Re: Wear Valley Railway
Hi,
I understand why you want it that way.
However I have a plan on how i want the assets to be laid out and the quality I want them to be.
If you can see for 3-4 miles in all directions I have to create some assets that fit the way I model to get the fps required.
I need to make views like this...
I also don't want to spend my time breaking up the assets into smaller ones. I have a lot to get through for just one person.
RSDL will be releasing all kinds of scenery packs that will contain many items that are modular for creators to use how they like, the foliage pack is just the start.

Re: Wear Valley Railway
Im sorry that im haveing a moan but its just big time frustration wanting RS to sucseed more than anything.
If i knew i had the brains to make stuff like you can then i would but the dam programs are well to difficuilt evan to just make something simple.
How can items seperate cause fps problems anyway?

Re: Wear Valley Railway
Its all about draw calls.
If I split the bridge into 2 or 3 parts that means instead of the sim calling it once it calls it 3 times. which for one asset is not bad, but multiply that by 1000 assets and you see the problem.
Also, users need to be aware of adding assets to a route. The more assets, the longer it will take to load from tile to tile.
A route with 100 assets will load much quicker than a route with 500 assets.
As an old teacher once said to me, 'It's about doing more with less better.'
Another qoute that i like is 'Don't let the things you can not do prevent you from doing the things you can do'
