Re: Wear Valley Railway
Wow! Thats some quick laying! Looking forward to this route, I can see potential for plenty of scenarios.

Good work Derek. Steady progress being made here. I Like the trackwork in the Pic it looks pretty complex.

Re: Wear Valley Railway
Now that's just depressing!
You've got farther in a few days then I've managed in 4 weeks. I'm still fiddling with Bishop Auckland station and the track looks nothing like as good as that
. I know when I'm beaten.

Re: Wear Valley Railway
That is super quick.
The thing that's slowing me down with the tracklaying on my route is that I keep getting distracted by doing the scenery.

Re: Wear Valley Railway
Sorry i am not trying to steal any thunder. I have been researching the area and stations for almost a year now and figured I might as well make a start. Just needed some help from Adam.

It is my home town and I have such fond memories of the old stations (which I am modelling right now)
Now working with Adam there is 35 miles 'ish' worth of track will probably be much more by the time the yards and sidings go in, still not sure what to do about shildon works, it looks really complicated.
Now that the track is down, I plan on putting the stations in, then from that adding sidings and yards. Follow that up with scenery heading in one direction.
I have all the info I need to make most of the stations so really everything else should be fine.
regards
Derek

Re: Wear Valley Railway
Hi Derek
Bishop Auckland is not a part of the country that I am familiar with but Google Earth shows it to be surrounded by fields even today.
You can trace the track on Google Earth and there are a few photos of Steam and Diesel Engines at the Shildon Railway Museum. Perhaps one of these (The Mayflower?) would be an appropriate choice for you to include in your route.
Are you using a standard RS route template or have you created your own? The cuttings are the wrong colour for an original default route.

Re: Wear Valley Railway
Hi,
Yes the route can still be seen on google earth, which is great, it helped us lay markers.
Like the IOW it will be made of its own assets and will not use any of the core ones.
I am currently using the IOW terrain template, however every texture will get changed.
I am using a default track however I will change the texture on it.
I will probably not use 3d sleepers. I do not think they are needed, I have big plans to recreate the town and if you are looking at the sleepers then I would have failed in my task.
While this is an ambitious project to undertake in my own time, however it is one I am keen to do.
Like the IOW every station will be modelled to the best of my knowledge. (For some of these stations there is not a great deal left to research)
Rolling stock projects have all been taken in house by RSDL.
regards

Re: Wear Valley Railway
Hi Derek
It is a painful lesson to learn that the Operating System (long past its sell by date) and Hardware (doing its best) are not up to speed with RS yet and the least number of assets you can use the better otherwise the game becomes unplayable with too much detail. (This is me advising Derek what to do - cheeky)
The good news is that I am sure that Mk 2 has smoothed out the transitions between tiles and where there used to be freezing, there is more of a slow down than a stopping which is much better, but frame rates still about the same.
Keep us posted on progress.

Hi Derek
I suspect that driving your own loco on your very own line for the first time was particularly satisfying.

You could try driving something a bit quicker than a Class 08...RSderek wrote:just been driving the line, took a fair while to get to Wearhead.

Oh, something like a tuned Class 08 with a higher compresssion, tuned exhaust, lowered body and (most importantly) go faster stripes?M1ckran wrote:You could try driving something a bit quicker than a Class 08...RSderek wrote:just been driving the line, took a fair while to get to Wearhead.

Re: Wear Valley Railway
I can empathise with that comment Geoff as in my younger days I used to be forever customising all the cars I owned.Acorncomputer wrote:Oh, something like a tuned Class 08 with a higher compresssion, tuned exhaust, lowered body and (most importantly) go faster stripes?M1ckran wrote:You could try driving something a bit quicker than a Class 08...RSderek wrote:just been driving the line, took a fair while to get to Wearhead.

It is also quite an satisfying experience driving around on the route you are creating. Still looking good Derek.
