Just Asking...

Post by ka959 »

I'm curious to know if any others out there, who are into creating timetabled or otherwise, scenarios, have had any consistent trouble with trying to add stops to a passenger train's list of stopping stations after creating a route, or just partially finishing it. This is where you bring up the fly-out window to search for stations that show up in a list.

I often have difficulty in getting stations to show up, for some odd reason, and have found out that most times, if I cut out a piece of track somewhere in front of the player train, and go back to rolling stock add mode where you can add a driver and instructions to your player or AI train, and go to search for stops to add to your train, the full list of stations you've created so far, is usually back again.

But the problem now, is that, since you've cut the track, trying to timetable your train to any station(s) past the break in the track, will only cause problems, in that the times for the timetabled stops are listed as exclaimation marks, as the train can't now reach those stations because of the gap in the track, although you can put these stations in the list, but not as they should correctly display.

So has anyone else experienced these problems themselves, also ? And is there a way of getting around this problem at all without having to create a gap in the track, and replacing the rails after creating the timetable, which isn't right, as I said. This is the only thing stopping me from creating a good, timetabled scenario, as I do not understand why the stations created, will not appear in the list after a certain point in the creation of the route. Some help from someone who knows what I'm talking abouot here, would be very much appreciated, thanks.

Regards...

Hi,
I don't usually have a problem adding stops to a passenger train, but I do have a problem getting a list of stations to come up when I click on the magnifing glass icon! I have always had to 'fly' out to the actual station and click on the actual Platform Marker. That's okay in a short route, but Bath to Templecombe is a long flight! I have to do the same within the Driver panel to fill in the destination slot.
I do use a laptop however, which RS is 'not guarenteed' to work properly on. It is my only quirk or problem so far!
regards from an Old Chap.

Hi
is this problem on a route you have created or on a default route !

On the route ive been building (blyth & Tyne) ive not come across any probs like this one, but if you alter the track or signals etc in your route makes the scenarios unusable.
i have noticed the free roam ones still work ?.

Also the problem in the post before this is down to the way you use the fly to ??.

I do it in this order , select the stop at icon ,and then the fly to box over the top,at this point select location from box, then click on the stop at sign ,only when this stop at box apears click on the arrow to fly to location ,at this stage you will be at the new location with the stop at box (not list of stations).click on + sign and then portal and save .

all done

sounds long winded but it gets second nature the more u use it

good look :D

Or just use the 2d map to select the destinations, then there is no need to fly anywhere until you do the next loco.

Hmmm...

I've just tried the "flying out to each successive station you want to add to the stopping list" and clicking on the centre post in the middle of the platforms after clicking on the green plus sign to add the next station. It works for me alright, although all this "flying out" is a bit monotonous to be honest. I assume from one of the replies above, using the 2D map is meant that you zoom in on the station name in the map, and click on it. I thought the 2D map did stuff all, actually ! It can't "teleport" you to a different location (yet, but will it be able to in the MkII upgrade ???) and to me, is only good for seeing where your player train is located on the map at the present time, and locating other trains.

Some of these replies seem to get you a fair bit of satisfaction when you have a problem of sorts. If you don't know the answer, it's a good bet that someone else does, and that's the good thing about this community I think. Where would we be, if we didn't have these forums ? Still in nappies I suppose, wondering how we're going to advance any further. A big "Thank you" to all those who've replied to mine, and others' queries, and helped us solve our problems so quickly. Cheers !
