Sometimes, when I've installed some wooden semaphore signals (NOT the lattice ones) and they appear to function correctly, all appears to be well, until I run this route of mine again, and I usually discover that there's another signal exactly the same in front of it, or very close to it, though. It's not quite set with the track links exactly the same as the other one I originally placed, and I can tell which is the original one, simply by clicking on them and seeing which one has one of the links where it should be up or down the track. The 'bad' one is usually with a link somewhere else, so that this signal will not function correctly, so I delete it.

Has anyone else had this 'extra' semaphore signal appear near their originals, and had to selete them on occasion ? And any idea as to what causes this 'extra' signal to appear where it shouldn't be appearing ? Is it a bug perhaps ? Normally, the signal that appears again, is one of the double Home types with the arms vertically above each other on a single post. Haven't seen this happen yet with any of the 'T' type semaphores so far, but it just may. Who knows ? Cheers.

I used to get this on occasions, but it was my own fault!
When you select a signal and take it over to the track with the mouse, you have to keep the mouse button down while you rotate it. Then you click once to place the signal. Next you move the first marker over on to the track nearby, and click once again. Then you move the next marker further down the track. This is where I was coming unstuck. When you click to place that final marker another identical signal appears and is stuck to your mouse ready to be placed elsewhere. This is similar to when placing wagons etc, you can keep clicking to place more wagons of the same type until you right click to get rid of that type of wagon or, in this case, signal.
I still get myself in a bit of a mess sometimes, left clicking and right clicking to try to get rid of that extra signal, and one ends up somewhere that I don't want one!
On the other hand, I often click to place the signal only to find I haven't placed it at all, then I have to reselect it and try again, this time remembering to place and click in the right order!
On one occasion I was studying the 2D map and found a length of track on its own way off of any of the proper route. I must have placed a bit of track, moved the mouse and then clicked again and placed another bit while I was trying to 'unstick' it from my mouse!

I have not observed this, but it might be caused by duplicating pieces of track which have a signal link sticking to them. The signal link information is stored with the track pieces. So, maybe if you copy a piece of track, the track links are not cleared from it before it is taken to the paste buffer. Only a theory. If true, I would rate it as "expected programme confusion" as opposed to "big bad bug". I found that signals get confused if you break up the track between them or add a junction between links or make similar alterations.

MSTS reportedly crashed if you altered track after placing the first signal. KRS does not crash, but sometimes, it is not too simple to keep things going in face of "surprising changes". I would remove signals from the part where I do the alterations first and generally finish the trackwork before starting the signalling. It helps yourself, too, because you must exactly observe the ends of the curved track pieces in switches to avoid link placement errors.
